RCBS 10/10 scales - problem.

Hi folks,

I have the RCBS 10/10 scales and there is a small chip in one of the two wedge pivot points on the beam.

This is causing the beam to be inconsistent, is there anywhere about that can repair it?

Or does anyone sell just this part?

Need some help please guys.

I would have thought RCBS would be willing to help. I've heard good reports about after sales service.

RCBS scales were, for the most part, made by Ohaus in the good old days wayback when. Nowadays I don't know. AS said I'd try RCBS and, first, the UK importer.

Unfortunately I don't think you'll get very far with RCBS or Ohaus. - RCBS stopped making the 10/10 around three years ago - for seven years or so before that they were either made in Mexico or China (still marked made by Ohaus. USA)

RCBS won't supply just the knife edge and they no support the scale.

If the knife edge is chipped at the ends - there's nothing that can be done to bring it back to life.

However - I have around 30-40 beam scales and do have a few spares I managed to wangle out of Ohaus a few years ago. Among the spares I have is a new 10/10 beam complete. The down side is that this beam is metric (grams not grains) The knife edges are exactly the same and they are a press fit.

Thank heavens that Vihtavouri printed manuals give powder charges in grams then.

It's not a big job to press out the old knife edge and replace it rather than start getting your head round working in grams. (Usually need to recalibrate the scale though)
