Rebarrel

I agree .....a simple thread leads to another character assassination.... poor show.

Hidden agenda, just watch who reads the thread and then watch the replies that get posted.

How many times have we been here...an over what, my "cheap" "inferior" work, which incidentally is no different to anything else, but they don't accept it.
It's either done correctly or it isn't. :)

Excellent post dropmdead,

A bit of reality at last. Furthermore anyone who believes Bergara barrels, are the only barrels with eccentricity, profile to rifling ...john

Funny that John but you're right, I did a Pacnor just recently and I've had to strike the barrel back because it was too far off when machining the thread protector. Not done this once with a Bergara.

People will always choose to use whoever they like... If James work wasn't up to standard then he wouldn't be as busy as he his would he? As it is I've had work done by James and by Steve Kershaw and I'd use either one again without a second thought. Some of you need to get out more quit whining... Life's too short

youre mad. Use redmist instead, you wont end up regretting that

i have no idea which gunsmith gives the best value for service,I don,t know any of them personally . For someone who has only just joined the form and lives in three city's you seem to have a hard on for James. It would appear when you are not flogging stuff your :stir: John

Lol he's a Sab within the midst of the forum, or his life is that bad he hasn't anything better to do. :D

Yes, when folks want them reduced in length to accommodate a moderator they can get quite wonky. There is definitely no correlation between eccentricity and posh barrel. I've seen 'cheap' barrels straight as a die and visa versa. It's down to how straight the rifling is and why you have glass on top of your rifle to adjust..John

I parted off 6" and it was quite a way out from the bore, out came the striking file, it was just peachy after that. Some are profiled on a CNC (Bergara are) some are done by hand on a rolling fixture where flat spots can occure.

Lol defining mad, spending more money than you need to on barrels that are no different to Bergara. Enough said.

All I'd say is learn a bit about barrels before slagging them off. :)

if you read my posts i havent slagged off any barrels, i have simply tried to quantify why you are quoted as being 1/3 of the price of more experienced rifle builders, which you are not. You are comparable in your labour costs which i have pointed out. Thats all. I wouldnt give you work because you seem to be "buying it" buy providing cheaper (possibly inferior, i dont know) barrels and using smoke and mirrors to make yourself look better value, which you are not. when someone does this it rings alarm bells that business is not good. There are other rifle builders out there that are more reliable, honest and dont constantly let people down.

as for my knowledge of barrels, its ok thanks, i've had a couple of good ones, fitted properly too.

Really...of course you know all this from first hand experience.

Well, it's like I said, take a step back and evaluate. :)

Straightpulljohn, You state the guy is less experienced, amongst other things, I am interested to hear what actual experience you personally have with/from James?

This thread is becoming fairly boringly repetitive. Perhaps it is just because I can't afford a custom rifle and am jealous (However my "cheap wouldn't even buy a posh barrel" CZ 7mm shoots better than 1/2 moa so I am happy) but it does seem to be degenerating into a playground argument!

David.

I'm sorry, but unless you have had first hand experience of this, backed up with proof, then what you have posted there on an open forum is pure industrial slander which could land you in a heap of trouble! I don't know how or why James takes this constantly. If that was me you'd have a solicitors letter heading your way! James, you need to 'shoot a few crows' and it will stop them coming back!

+1

libel, not slander.
Things 'said' and an open forum are obviously written so you are clearly correct. The fact that you are intelligent enough to know the difference would indicate that you are also intelligent enough to know of the possible implications. Hiding behind a user name and putting 3 different locations does not make you untraceable. Good luck!

Im not hiding, my locations are where i live, work and hunt, lots on here do that.

so far i have said nothing libelous whatsoever. I simply tried to get to the bottom of Emcc's untrue claims about industry pricing. Read my posts before jumping on "save poor james" bandwagon.
