Recommendations for a lightweight, summer waterproof upper outer layer.

my Harkila Pro Hunter Move jacket and trousers are fantastic for cold weather, but I don’t have a good solution for warm, wet weather.
Any recommendations?
Thanks!

I have a Squall hardshell from Helikon Tex.

Light, packs small, highly breathable, waterproof, taped seams, pit zips, hood.

It’s quite new, bought in the autumn last year, but I’ve used it quite a few times as an outer layer even in colder weather and I’ve been impressed so far.

It’s more “tactical” than hunting, but comes in reasonable colours.

The only negative, if I had to pick one, is that it could be a little quieter, but I find that with pretty much all hardshells.

Not sure where you’d find them in the UK.

Paramo, but they can be a bit warm although have good ventilation.

Depends where you are going to be stalking and how far away from somewhere you can dry your jacket out but I really like my DPM windproof gardedine smock. Lightweight, breathable, showerproof, silent, loads of pockets. A pleasure to wear.

Any cotton manufactured garment can be made showerproof with Diver Dave’s waterproof treatment. If it’s chucking it down you don’t have much choice other than any boil in the bag jacket which will be noisy. But if it’s raining that hard the noice of the rain will drown out any associated noise.

Second this on Paramo, and you can pick up second hand gear in their shops. I've been really impressed with mine

Thanks for the reply. Could you share a link to your smock?

This is what you are after:

I got mine from here I think but they are out of stock. They do come up on eBay and other suppliers may well them in varying sizes and costs...

How do these fair in the rain? Not a downpour but a decent shower?
They are made from preshrunk wool, and keep all but the heaviest stuff off. Doesn't go "black" when wet either. They look like they'll be too hot to wear for the summer, but being pure wool, they actually are very cool to wear on warm days. The other advantage is that they dry quickly too. They are machine washable and if you use the Nikwax wash-in water repellent, when you do wash it, you will be yet more waterproof. Welcome to Nikwax | Outdoor Innovation Welcome to Nikwax | Outdoor Innovation I have been wearing them since 1990. In those days they were made in New Zealand rather than China and my first one lasted until about 2010. It is still alive, just serving as part of the dog's bedding. Those I have had since are still better than anything else I have had, they just don't last as long- but at £140 for a new one, it is an easy replacement. The great thing for me is that they are completely silent. The drawback for stalking is the lack of a decent pocket, and the piffling pocket on the top left of the chest is a nuisance if you are a left handed shot like me. My wife gave me a "rough" from Boreal Anoraks. Wool Anoraks . The proprietor was pretty rude, but it is possible he gets lots of silly questions. The coat is excellent but I suspect I'll be in my swanni in the summer as the Boreal is very thick. It has a walloping great pocket on the front (Bino's, knife, phone, thermal imager with room to spare) and I am really pleased with it both for rough woodland stalking and high seat work in the rain and cold for extended periods. I am a reasonably big boy but the 2XL gives me room for underlayers if I need them, or alternatively, sneak the dog in there if you are sitting still...best radiator ever. The stinger is that the makers sent it over and declared its full price which then incurred another UK import tax. This saw the overall cost at closer to £450. If they wrote the value down, it wouldn't have been a problem. Anyway...cracking bit of gear, silent, excellent colour for the winter woodland that does not go black when wet and quickly became my go-to coat for winter stalking. Good luck!
