Red stag amongst fallow bucks

Evening all,
I have not posted anything for a long time but have a question relating to the title.
I was at a new permission today for the first time, just having a walk to look at the ground. A few minutes after arriving I heard a lot of undergrowth rustling and above me on the bank appeared 10 to 15 fallow bucks from very mature to what looked like last years followers. But amongst them stood looking at me was a red stag.
Is it unusual to have a red roaming amongst fallow?
I can't confirm if there are any hinds in the area. (Trail cam going up soon)
What is the likely hood of him trying to mate with female fallow?

Thanks

He won't try to mate with a female fallow, and even if he did nothing would come of it.
My guess is that he's just a lone wanderer who's teamed up with a group of fallow for security reasons, while he's in their area.
Might even be a deer park escapee who's used to living cheek by jowl with other species.

There are some Reds around there. :tiphat:

Interesting. Last year I shot a young fallow buck that was in company with a mature sika stag. My high seat overlooked a well used rack and they emerged nose to tail travelling together.
I've also witnessed sika spikers interacting with a fallow doe and follower as if they were all the same group (wild deer not park).
There are fair numbers of both species in the area and abundant habitat.
I can't say if they were actively choosing to herd together or just congregating on the same feeding areas but they seemed to get along just fine.

We've the opposite around here - a white fallow doe that runs with a bunch of red stags. Been there a few years now. Known locally as "snowy" and she's apparently mystical and hard to spot (if you believe Instagram and Facebook photography stuff). I saw her 4 times last week from the road!

No fallow immediately around here and she just seems to hang out with the stags. Plenty of hinds around mind you, but only ever seen her with the boys.

I have seen a fallow buck mix in with a herd of cattle. It hung round for a few weeks. Sometimes they just want company.

I,ve seen fallow with reds, reds with fallow, sika running with reds hinds and stags, if you have enough deer you will see it
