Red stag - find me a pan

A 30 litre is around £150. I’ve been using one for all skulls and it’s been a godsend, no more skull soup in the house, I only wish I’d got one for the 10 years prior to that.

Can find a 30l for £105 delivered on eBay.

Like you say a godsend - lent mine to quite a few people - maybe chip in with a few pals and save a few marriages along the way. 😂

Yes, very true. I should return it but I need to sort some heads out this weekend. They smell awfully and with it being half term this week there is resentment of leaving them to fester!
Oh come now, they didn't smell too bad! In fact, I couldn't smell them at all!

(OK, I confess, I have no sense of smell. There are a few occasions when having such a disability may be considered an advantage. Like when sharing a vehicle with a couple of rancid deer heads. Hope the rest of the journey went well.....?)

Thank you for sorting for me! They weren’t too bad but a week of moping about the garden has done them no favours!

Folks, if I go down the boiler / burco route, how many litres volume will I need as a minimum for a red?

Thanks for the suggestions!

I thought a Burco was the way to go but in practice it’s a real faff. Boiling outdoors they loose heat rapidly and I had to lag mine with hot water cylinder insulation and then covered that in aluminium foil. However, in the Autumn/Winter it takes an age to do a head one at a time and you really need to cover the top too around the pedicles to keep the heat in. I shot 6 reds at the end of October in the rut, brought 4 back and gave them to a colleague to do - for £30 each, trust me it’s worth it! He too tried a Burco and quote - it lasted 5 minutes. He uses a large pan and a gas ring that puts a lot of heat quickly into the water!

Currently away on a cruise otherwise I’d include a picture of the lengths I’ve had to go to in making the Burco a semi-viable option. Gas ring and large pot - talk to your local Scout troop ;)
