Release day 2026

Always a long hard day but my boys and their cousins thoroughly enjoyed it. As per previous years they ringed a few birds so as to keep an eye on the wandering. We only had two poults spook, so a successful release despite the numbers involved. They’re learning how to do it, keep calm let them settle,

I would like to send a big thanks to our game breeder John Derbyshire, we had an issue with some poults. He actually raised the issue with us immediately to avoid unnecessary losses, we had noticed some losses but didn’t raise it with him as it seemed within expected transfer loss early days. Not only has he arranged and paid for all treatment, he has replaced all lost poults plus 20% extra. He’s retiring this year and I understand that there is no buyer for his game farm. He had absolutely no need to look after us but did so. A true gent. In previous seasons there has been a clamour to save 5p per bird etc and shop around. No way. John looked after us during Covid, no price spiking and no issues with availability. Loyalty should be rewarded. He off to enjoy his stalking now and finally, after a lifetime working every summer, enjoy the rest.
