Reloading powder data

Hi there.
I'm reloading with RS 70.
I'm using Gordon Reloading Tool. I've compared the powder specification on GRT to QUICKLOAD and I have found out that they use different data (for example burning rate). Of course if I try to simulate a cartridge, these two software give me different muzzle velocity.
Can you please help me?

My opinion is just that, it may not match your expectations, & there are other much more knowledgeable re loaders on here who will no doubt be better sources, Laurie and Muir for two examples, Steve.:tiphat:

That sounds spot on.

None of the simulations seem to get it right 100% of the time. Which, in part, is because there are so many variables in play from rifle to rifle, brass, dies, etc.

The powder makers use a standard rig for their testing which may differ dimensionally from your rifle in significant ways.

But what the powder-maker's data will definitely supply is a heavily tested range of charges for each cartridge combo.

If you start near a powder maker's min value and work up, you cannot go far wrong.

I get good results from GRT for most chamberings in the powders I use. But note GRT's calibration levels. [the meter indicates depth of data afaik]

The programmes are all slight variations on a theme - that is theoretical. I would not get hung up on the velocity presented - you need to get the actual velocity from your rifle in your conditions. These programmes should lead you to an accurate load which is the aim - velocity (IMHO) comes second. They shouldn't be massively different.

Use manufacturer’s data, load some test loads, go and chrono them!
