Reloading records ?

I can see reloading being more regulated in future.

My ammunition usage wasn’t queried but my legal limits per rifle were checked upon renewal inspection.

I did write them all down in a diary but was also thinking that this doesn’t really prove anything to anyone

We need to get away from the idea that you can only have a 'good reason to possess' if you fire the thing.

Even if you bought/loaded a lot of ammunition, it is not proof that you're firing any of it: you could be selling or hoarding it, or just taking it apart (again)!

@Dalua

I have a very 'modest' collection of Military Rifles, as opposed to the 'small' collection shown...😇

On Highs Days and Holidays, they may get a run out to the range, but more often than not, I just look and them and wonder about their stories...

The landowners where I shoot regularly see me about even if we don’t stop for a chat, and if going nighttime foxing I ALWAYS give them a call out of courtesy to let them know I’ll be on their land. If my FEO really is that bothered he can simply pick up the phone and ask any one of them if I still go shooting, however as has been pointed out already, this also proves f*** all.
I could go out with a firearm and not fire a single shot on numerous consecutive occasions, but I still have a valid reason to own it even though technically I haven’t used it. Showing receipts for components or storing bottles of spent primers could just as easily indicate that you are producing ammunition for people of a nefarious disposition and do not actually use it yourself, likewise for the purchase of factory ammunition.

are you constantly a troll ?
How is that a trolling post.

He is right, keeping spent primers proves nothing, as my post above, I have thousands of primers in a pot that other people have fired.

Incidentally when the pot is full it gets emptied into the bin. I’ve never been asked to prove use and, I suspect like @Stalker1962 I have more than a couple of firearms. Maybe that’s the key?

OK well you do what you do and I will do what I do , we don't all have to do the same thing and there's no harm in doing either

Think we have ascertained, no requirement but some feel better keeping items and or records

And it's a good idea to record loading efforts for yourself.

Thanks all

I keep a hen’s scrawl of a record, every round I reload…it’s more for my reference but if the FEO wants to see it…fine, I did have one that started counting and then said “Ok, that’s enough of that” and smiled…

Sure, I could be writing in anything, but if it was ever tested in court I’m sure my local crack firearms dealer could show my purchases that would add up to what I shoot. Also things like club records, game dealer etc…

Most will blow the “good reason” out of the water, bear in mind you could shoot one deer a year and that would be good reason…so, one round…and three to zero…🤷🏻‍♂️

Gixer

I’d love to see my FEO count my reload records, or my ammunition for that matter. I think I was over 6000CF and 3500 RF at last tally, would definitely be a waste of police time!

Having just renewed and having a blank ammunition column the conversation was quite quick.
Do you reload? Yes. Thank you and noted.
Nor was I asked to show where I store my powder.
No counting of ammo or request to see some form of reloading record keeping - which I do keep - old style - written in an old school exercise book.
Non of this proves anything.
I was talking to a chap at the weekend regarding record keeping of reloads and he writes it onto his fac and his FEO is ok with this.
I said he may well be but its not a requirement and how would I manage that as I shoot about 2k a year?

It certainly is…most of the ones in the know don’t even bother…but you do get the eager beavers sometimes that will thumb through pages…🤷🏻‍♂️
