Anyone with any experience good or bad of the above rifle? It'll be to replace a t3x varmint which is just getting too heavy for me with my crocked shoulder. Thanks.

Yes, I have two, 7mm08 and 243.

Best suited to the lighter end of .308 based cartridges (i.e 243, 6.5 Creedmoor, 260 Rem, 7mm08). Although Remington made the Short Action Ultra Magnum cartridge for the Model Seven, these were not particularly popular at the time, despite the cartridge being of excellent design.

Great design and one of the lightest centerfire rifles available.

Difficult to find good stocks for them, although Boyds offers them, it's special order from the USA. Same goes for McMillan and Manners.

Triggertech offers a nice replacement trigger for them.

The best solution for scope mounting, which is made difficult by only three screw holes on the older recievers, is an EGW picatinny rail epoxy bedded to the receiver.

Overall a very nice, lightweight packadge. Try and look for an older one. Not too many about in the UK.

PM me if further advice needed.

Its a .204 im looking at, for foxing so will be wanting to put a pic rail on.

Thanks for indepth reply, appreciated 👍.
Chuck Hawkes gave them a good review. I have had two 700s one for 20 odd years in triple deuce - most accurate rifle I ever shot and the other for 10 years or so in .308 - also a great shooting rifle.
One in .204 here.

I have two also .260 and a .17 fireball
Good rifles I have more expensive rifles but these two would be the last I’d sell

That's the one lm thinking of mate

Tempted...often.
It's the trigger on Remington after the 90's.
Budget to upgrade the trigger Ben if you aren't up to working on it yourself. The last Remington 700 trigger post 2000 took me six hours!
I'm 100% behind light rifles and it's beyond me why people go for heavy barrels and actions to hunt with. Walking far isn't part of their day!

What’s not to like about a M7?
The above one sounds like a cheap buy…..if it’s not shot out.
Talley Pic. rails on ebay but not cheap.
Mc Avoys are advertising them but out of stock, told me 6 weeks delivery.
As the one advertised on G T not got a picatinny rail fitted?
Cheers, Ken.
PS. I recently got one in 308 and it’s quite lively.

I can't see an m7 being shot to death at the range. It's just not that sort of rifle....
Agree, but better to ask all the questions.
Is the crown and first couple of inches of bore good?
Is the throat or barrel erroded or got any fire cracking?
This assuming you can't go see it.
Ken.

You assume correctly & that's my biggest concern. Whilst my t3x is heavy, at least I've owned it from new....

What pic rail did you get?

I’ve got a model 7 in 308 with 18” barrel, lovely little stalking rifle.

As noted above, EGW

They have two variants, a 3 and 4 hole for the older/newer recievers.

Also offered in either 'regular' (center channel milled out for iron sighted use) or 'tactical' (whatever that means).

Further option of either 0 or 20 MOA canted inclination.

Just FYI.
The "New" (2014?) M7 I recently bought came with a rail fitted.
This rail only has two cross slots at the front and one slot across the back end.
I don't know if this is a Remington rail but it's not ideal, especially if you want to put NV and IR on the same rail.
Ken.

That's a Weaver type rail from your description.

A picture might help to identify.

@Optics Trade EU can also help in sourcing a mount.

Mine’s an old one I reckon, wood stocked, came with rings so I’ve never had to check tbh but might put a tail on it as I have done with my other rifles so it’s handy for swapping scopes around.
