Hi

Given that we now have to send our licenses off to be filled in by the seller and the seller pays the postage costs, what service is the receiving RFD charging for?

The receiving RFD is contacted by the sending RFD and AFAIK, both RFDs exchange registration details to make sure the transfer is legal
When the rifle arrives at the receiving RFD, he has to check the make, calibre and serial number (and whether or not there is a moderator) and to store it until the buyer comes to collect it.
When the buyer does come to collect it he has to check that the buyer does have the appropriate authority in his FAC and that the details entered in Table 1 of the buyers FAC match the rifle
All of that takes time, so surely the RFD should be allowed o charge for that?

Cheers

Yes. I was wondering how much time given that there’s little paperwork now apart from exchanging RFD info by email.

I wouldn’t think checking the contents of a box and handing it over takes much time?

RFD transfers provide a service you can’t get anywhere else. To do that they have a premises, pay lighting and heating costs, perhaps employ someone, all the time hopefully making enough to keep the wolf from the door. In the meantime, you will use their transferring services once every blue moon.

Of course you’ll only use RFD to RFD services when the distance involved makes going yourself prohibitively expensive. But you always have that option.

The simple answer is - very little, it’s actually a nonsense system as you send your FAC to a seller, he fills it in, gives the firearm to an RFD, they have to send the firearm (which usually isn’t with any special carrier and quite often isn’t tracked) and then the RFD at your end recieves it and hands it to you - there’s no record of it ever being with the receiving RFD really other than the sending paperwork. They don’t enter it into anything.

It would make more sense it the courier could deliver it to you and have to confirm seeing the FAC.

Gixer

Once every blue moon is my point really.
Plus spending £1000’s on guns, equipment and ammo in between though.

I’m a little surprised at the rates being charged for what is now a very simple action taking little time.

Tbh, i’d think a token charge or no charge would be more suitable, particularly if you have spent a fair bit in the shop.

Not a rate that would match a solicitors.

These days £25 is a token charge.
Alternatively, you could buy from your local dealer and avoid the charge.

The going rate for years now seems to be circa £50 each end

This idea of sending of your certificate to a complete stranger I just don’t like idea of

This isn’t new, it has always been the case.

You are paying for a service, it’s up to them if they charge and what they charge. It’s up to you whether or not you choose to use the service and pay for it.

Has that ever happened? When i was awaiting a transfer the RFD knew what day it was coming.
yes happens quite often, parcel force don't always deliver on time, people don't always send stuff as promised, people don't always book onto the right delivery service.. many reasons. only this week i had a custom action arrive 8 weeks earlier than expected from Zermatt Arms, i was away from the premises so i decided to go to the depot to pick it up, as i had other things planned which meant re delivery was not possible. Also, i don't like things hanging around in parcelforce hands for too long. anyway, i absorb the cost of this to promote the business in a positive way and give the customer the best possible experience, i cant do anything else really.

I know its not new. But the sending off of your fac etc is.

Now there’s far less for the receiving rfd to do but the charges remain.

And yes, they can charge what they like, but if you have spent a fair bit of money with them previously then should they?

Think the receiving RFD still enters the transaction in to their register for an audit path from seller to buyer.

I would stop moaning about the fee and just be grateful the RFD is happy to do the transfer, where would it leave us if they all stopped offering the service?
