Rifle magazines prohibited objects?

Hi,
I have surrendered my little Anschutz 1416 today to my local police station, a great little accurate short-barrelled .22 LR
I have retained the magazine and will sell it on, on here.
I am in receipt of an email from a Police Officer from that station requesting that I “drop it off at the station when I have the chance”.
I believe that I am within my rights to retain this magazine, and recoup a little cash from surrendering my firearm for destruction.
I believe that I am committing no offence by selling this magazine through the post, and that it does not constitute a ‘component part’.
Am I right?
Facts only, please. Not people’s opinions.

Its not a pressure bearing part and won't have a serial number, also if you look on websites such as riflemags.co.uk, you can buy mags without issue through the post. I'd email them back and say you're coming to collect the stock and trigger as well

It’s been on here for months. Nobody nibbled. Contacted a local dealer- I would have had to pay £35 to have it destroyed! He had a shed full of firearms handed in. Nobody wants them. Such a shame. Cracking wee gun.

The RFD I help out at is about the only one who takes rifles free of charge, but he would have needed to mag lol

I handed in a 9mm Rimfire bolt action shotgun in May and retained the stock as that also is not a controlled component part. There is no control on a magazine. Keep it, sell it, do what you want and that doing what you want also includes choosing not to give it to the police.

Opinion sorry but one ought to of bent the barrel first or put a cutting disc through it or the bolt.

Hahah ! If you think a surrendered firearm would/could be sold back into the market then you’re very unaware when it comes to Police paperwork.
The only way that a dishonest officer could do so (yes, there’s some about but he thankfully not many) would’ve been to hand the owner no receipt or paperwork to show it’d been handed in. And what about the owners FAC which must show it as surrendered ? Otherwise he’d have to account for it…
Then the officer could sell it on - oh, hold the phone, he’d have to have a current FAC with that weapon on it wouldn’t he ?

So you’re saying a serving police officer can’t have an fac ?? Personally if said officer had that slot on fac it wouldn’t be too hard to claim it , also you’ve not answered the question why ask for the mag ?

No I'm not saying he couldn’t have an FAC. But in order to reintroduce the weapon to the market then an FAC would have to show that weapon (with serial numbers) on it.
He couldn’t walk into an RFD and plonk it on the counter, take cash and walk out could he ! Unless you know of RFD’s that wouldn’t enter it in their ledger ….. oh here we go again, there’s another can of worms.

The mag is not a pressure bearing part. No need to surrender. The officer has probably been told by someone else that it needs to be with the rifle and he knows no better.

I think a lot of people have this idea that Police officers actually know some stuff - they don’t. Their knowledge on basic RTA and detailed firearms law is incredibly low as to most uniform cops it’s something they don’t have contact with. Even ARV officers have less knowledge than you’d think on licensing of firearms.

Most now reference to their MDT (mobile data terminal) which also informs them of salient ‘points to prove’ and questions to ask in order to investigate offences. The 6 month training they get before being sent out barely covers the Theft Act. I understand they get more time instructed on domestic violence these days.

I am slightly amused at the turn this post has taken, but I’m actually more saddened that people would jump to the conclusions they have immediately.
