Rifle sling chest strap options?

Hi, looking for recommendations.

Either a new sling or preferably a strap to convert my existing rifle sling into something resembling the z-aim etc.

Have seen the "safety gun strap" from bestfoxcall- best part of £40 for a simple strap doesn't seem worth it.

Also does this type of sling work well when wearing a bino pack? Most pics I've seen shows them sitting high across the chest

Thanks 👍
Whichever one you get, watch out for where the the chest strap joins the shoulder strap.

Several have this far too high, which makes it nearly impossible to get it to sit comfortably. The big mistake seems to be to have the chest strap anchor point at the top of the shoulder pad, rather than the bottom. I think the worst for this is the Top Notch sling. Beautifully made and very high quality, but ergonomically a complete disaster.

The Napier one is a fairly close copy of the original Z Aim sling, and works well. Both the Napier and Z Aim can easily be worn with a chest rig (another reason to have a lower chest strap).

RoeTex do a slightly too complex version that incorporates aspects of a backpack sling and a Z sling. It’s very good if you’re walking a lot of miles and crawling a lot, but not at all good if you’re needing to deploy the rifle quickly.

I haven’t tried the Praesidia, but from what I can tell from the pictures online, it looks like you can adjust the anchor point of the chest strap, which possibly makes it a winner. Punchy price though…

There are various others out there, and you can easily make one yourself. I’m saving up to get the Praesidia.

Thanks.

I f*cking hate those weird clips. They really aren’t reliable if you have unpredictable tension on the straps (as you do when, say, crawling about with a rifle). They’re also a ballache to reattach if you have other kit in the way.

That’s Praesidia off the list…

I can see the advantages of such an arrangement but from experience it's worth noting the cross strap need not be anything approaching the width of the unit demonstrated in the video. Further, it's a very simple device to make and using whatever material floats your canoe.

K
I had one with a thinner cross strap and found it slipped, where this ones width and none slip backing hold even with a daysack.

I just bought the Deer Central Pro sling and was out with it for a full day on Friday. Can only say good things about it and it performed really well. The rifle I was using was very muzzle heavy (long barrel, jet-z mod, Harris and a light stock!) so I needed the chest strap to anchor in place carrying muzzle up which it did. Yes the attachment point is high and the strap does interfere with my chest harness a little, but not to the point of causing problems. Really happy with it and looking forward to my next outing.

I made this from scratch with webbing and buckles off Ebay.

It works well with a bino harness and a rucksack too if needed. The reason for this is I made the chest strap extra long so it is versatile enough to work in summer over a t-shirt or winter over various layers, with a bingo harness and rucksack too.

I definitely wouldn't spend £40 on the chest strap as you could make 10 for that price and they'd probably be better and more suited to your needs.
Cheers, what do you call the tee shaped adjustable bit that attaches the chest strap to the sling? That looks perfect

20mm 3 Way Tri Glide Buckle & 25mm Side Loop Chest Strap Adjuster Webbing | eBay

It's one of these but 25mm on all slots to fit the webbing I used.

The reason I made everything from 25mm webbing is that the chest strap can be adjusted up or down to go over or under a bino harness or higher up to the shoulder to really keep the strap from slipping off. All the ones on thr market don't have enough adjustment for different rifles, size people, winter/summer use or with packs or not.

Have you used a genuine fidlock buckle or a cheaper copy, and if the latter is it just as reliable? I saw one on eBay that looks identical just described as "magnetic buckle" only around £3

I bought 2 off AliExpress so probably the same as eBay. They have held up well and are solid. I don't think they're much more useful than a standard webbing buckle though. They are quieter to attach and unclip but that's about the only advantage. The downside is they're a bit bigger than a standard clip.

Thanks for taking the time to share.
