Rifle slings

I have a Reineke leather sling, cost 80 Euros.
It has a stud and loop system so I can pull the sling through the loop and fix it to the stud making it a short sling, just long enough to stretch from the two sling swivels.
Unhitch the sling from the stud and pull and I have a full length sling.
Sounds complicated but isn't really, no loose sling flopping about when using the bi-pod or a fence/post/tree support.

OK MR. flytie - you've blown my cover. Pop into your local harness/saddler shop and buy a set of reins. 3/4" is probably as wide as you'll get but you get a pair of reins for £30 - best English leather with a stippled, non-slip rubber sheath over it.

One end has to be cut and punched for the lacing tie, but the other with the small leather hook is ready to use - facing outwards, on the butt.

Buying the same article - one piece - at an inch wide costs circa £38 (Including postage), from a shooting supplies dealer. (Can't find the address at the moment). So, don't tell the saddler or the price might suddenly escalate.

I can assure anyone that this will not slip. Using the sling did away with that constant nagging slippage of a rifle shouldered in the forward position during woodland stalking.

I have to be honest and tell you all that it was MAX and his wife - who is keen on horse dressage - who put me onto the idea.

I've just put my old Latigo sling back on my 243. It's one I bought from Brownells many moons ago - 1" wide leather works well - Adjustable so it can be used as a shooting sling very quickly - good for standing shots - works a bit like a single point sling but is good for carrying your rifle over your shoulder as well.
