While out this winter because of the mild weather I have seen many squirrels, hares and a few rabbits as well a other "various".
i cannot afford the time out from stalking to tackle these varmints.
So thought I could do a vermin day/outing for a client to stalk and shoot the woods over my pointer(Breeze), but instead of deer we would target vermin/hares.
Her ability to hear and spot squirrels is uncanny and makes great stalking the woods.
Presuming the weather is reasonable I should gaurantee a bag of 10 head(varied) min, or shots.
The outing would be £50 or £90 for the day.
I can provide a cannon if required.
This will be vermin control with a twist as it will mostly be stalked, (if possible).

I would, if nearer, just for the outing and the experience, even though it's no different to what I do at home for free!

That's not quite the way I read it, Rake Aboot.
Sounds to me like he's offering a sort of "mini stalk", so you'd be on a new piece of ground, with an experienced guide, with a good dog, and get guaranteed a few shots into the bargain.
Probably not a very efficient way of reducing vermin numbers, but good fun for a novice client who is perhaps only just getting into rifle shooting (like me), and the stalker gets a bit of income out of it to.

Sorry I have never sworn on line before but here it comes..................................................F. unbelievable that is a disgrace!!!!!!!!! £90.00 a day to shoot squirrels. No time to do it yourself but time to get paid for it. Are you the same chap putting a syndicate together a couple of weeks ago 500 acres in Scotland for £6000 is it just me or is everyone going mad?

The only disgrace here is you can have a go at a trade member offering an upfront deal with nothing hidden, And you R.A.B should try it I have had no end of pm's.
This is not just a crack at a few squirrels, its a days stalking over a trained pointing dog to shoot any legal quarry (with a small calibre rifle) which makes itself available.
If there were no takers nothing lost. I there are a few well thats between them and me.
I knew this would stir some up, but I am a trade member making a living and pay to post here.
I see this as no different to say "park culling" not everyones idea of sport but a way of learning non the less.

Sorry, did not mean to make it personal. ok, for your time and input it is probably good value but perhaps the general economy is getting to me. As an Architect living in the west midlands (with our own stalking) I would now have to think very carefully about £50.00 an outing for deer.

a few years ago I had a client from Finland, who had shot everything from Moose to rat, who used to pay me to take him on a bit of a rimfire safari, he loved shooting rabbits. The way we used to do was to literally stalk them in the fields and he used to shoot them off sticks up to 100 yards away, he was a cracking shot. I have to tell you that a day at this was very satisfying and once you entered into the spirit of it very engrossing.

Since then I have looked on rabbit shooting as far less of a chore, it takes you back to when you were a youngster starting out and a field of rabbits was to you the African plains full of game. You go for it mate, it does no one harm to practise on the small stuff, they might be smaller you may need more for a good feed, but they are still quarry and deserve to be dealt with just as efficiently and humanely as deer.

John this is where the idea stemmed from, clients from abroad have non of the vermin type shooting we hve here and have said they woud pay to do it if it could be made into a safari(stalk). Well over the last few weeks breeze has obtained a great knack at hearing/seeing squirrels in the tree tops from great distancces and I thought i would like to have a go myself, then it matured into a sporting oppertunity for anyone who wanted to have a go.

It is so easy to send a negative email i think its part of our heritage to be negative.
Your day out would not be for me but am sure a number of folks would jump at the chance

10 posts in over a year 2 of them on this thread, one a right go the other an appoligy.
Maybe you should think a little longer before you post.
£50 for a stalk you'll be lucky anyway.
As I said the post was upfront and open. At £30+ for a driven pheasant I would say £50 for a morning out was good value?

I actually think this is a cracking offer, but as soon as I read it I knew there would be trouble.

Too many people enter the fieldsports world straight into deer stalking or driven pheasant shooting without ever having served any sort of apprenticeship. I realise I am lucky to have been born on a farm with a father and uncles who shot; I started over 30 years ago with a BSA airsporter, followed by a BSA 22LR and then an AYA Yeoman.

Stalking rabbits with a rimfire is fantastic sport - not to mention watching a pointer at work is God's own sport, I would just as soon do that as stalk deer, but here it is being scoffed at as if it is a job someone would need to pay you to do?? I am sure there are loads of city bound guys would love a go at this. It would also be a great day out for a young lad as a present.

I actually know a bloke, well heeled doctor, legend has it that the first thing he ever killed with a rifle was a f~cking Elephant - seriously. I know for a fact he has shot at least one lion and several brown bears. As far as I know he has never shot a rabbit or a fox - told me this himself. I am not condemning the man, but there is something wrong with that.

Plenty of folk on here say that they "do it for the stalk" or "it's all about being having a day out in the countryside" and "I don't mind not getting a shot if I've had a good outing" so they shouldn't be so snobbish about the quarry, as all those criteria are easily satisfied on a vermin and small game shoot.

As someone else pointed out, the best thing is to work up to bigger quarry, learning fieldcraft as you go. Opportunities like this are a godsend to beginners without land.

NOW!!! what I have said before is not being taken into account.

ANYONE who pays and posts on this site and offers a service for which you have to pay for should not have to run the gauntlet of ABUSE about what they are charging.

ITS VERY SIMPLE IF YOU DONT WANT TO DO IT THEN DONT!!! AND FURTHER MORE KEEP YOUR MONEY. Some people make a living out of the countryside, me included so if you dont like the price keep it to yourself we do not need to hear it on here.

Theres plenty who pay alot more than this for a days pigeon shooting, and dont fire a shot !! i think those who dont have the ground will jump at this.
And those with air rifles.
