Rizzini O/O Double

Has any one on here got any experience of these guns. I’m looking at one very hard at present in 9.3x74r. It’s not a bad price secondhand with some lovely wood. Swing off mounts and a Zeiss scope that probably won’t keep. Clearly for driven shooting. I would really like a merkel or heym double but at present there just a touch too much dough
Any opinions would be appreciated

Regards Steve

No experience of Rizzini.
However, the experience I have with this kind of rifle leads me to recommend the following:
1. A borescope might help avoid disappointment - but mainly....
2. Ask what ammuntion it's regulated with, which which sights and at what range.
3. Don't buy it unless you've seen it shot satisfactorily as specified in 2 - preferably by you. Traditionally this means two or three pairs - o and u shot within six seconds or so of each other, and allowed to cool completely between pairs.

I know what it’s been regulated with ammo wise. I will bore scope it first clearly and ask to shoot it as well

Thanks for the reply

My mate boughtbone for his 50th birthday. He does driven hunts every week during tge season for the last 30 years. He likes it a lot and has sent me plenty pictures of deer he has taken with it using the 9.3x74R. Ive handled them in the shop and they handle well. They are a step in quality from the fabarm asper in 9.3x74R which i have fired extensively.

That’s great mate thanks. As said would love a merkel or heym but a bit too much at present. I could get rid of one of the blasers but couldn’t part with any of em to be honest

Every year at the IWA show I fondle a Rizzini over under rifle. As if they were made for me. one day...

Hello everyone, the caliber is absolutely fantastic, even for dangerous hunting in certain countries. It has enormous forcefulness and a tolerable setback. I know a case of Rizzini, who after an excessive shooting session, the barrels were desolded.
Those who bring the possibility of manually adjusting them, are usually descalibrated. The double rifle, usually used once firing, recharges and fires again (if necessary) no more.
As they have said, if you want to check the grouping, do not wait more than 8 seconds between one shot and the other, since the tensions are transferred and you can lose precision.

If you find a Chapuis at a good price, be sure to consider it. It will not disappoint you and they are tested with Norma Oryx or Alaskan, ammunition with which you will surely group perfectly.

Best regards

Manuel.

When you shoot it, remember with any double to hold properly and firmly and support your hands / elbows. Don't put it in a shooting cradle. Not sure what range they are regulated at, but typically 50 or 80 metres. Doubles are not precision rifles so don't expect 1/2MOA type groups. But four shots - one from each barrel then reload and repeat should easily go into a 3 or 4 inch circle, most will do better.

If it has swing off mounts so much the better - I hope the scope is mounted nice and low. What Zeiss scope is it - if its a straight tubed with a reasonable reticle why change? But for driven ranges open sights can be just as good.

Don't worry if its not an ejector - just a quick roll of flick of the wrists and the empties fall out at your feet. With ejectors you will be scrabbling around for your empties. With a double you get two fast shots, and then another two fast shots, and then another two fast shots. Where as a magazine rifle takes a while to reload the magazine.

My experience of driven pigs is that usually two shots is all you get.

Thanks for the advice. I would like to change the scope to a Swarovski one I have here z8i. But everything else would stay. Swing off mounts are apel I think so good there.

I’m used to pig shooting using an R8 in .30.06 but have always wanted a double. Would love a heym or merkel as mentioned but a touch too much at present for me

Yes Apel are great. I don't have many hunting videos of the 9.3x74R, but here is one of them with a Swarovski scope.
I'll take a Rizzini just as quick, don't worry.

If you manage to know well how you shoot, you can make shots that are considered distant for this type of weapons.

I agree with what Heym Sr20 mentions (long live Heym),

they are weapons intended for other purposes. These are two shots at 153 yards.

vault tec propaganda

And these are two shots made with the barrel at 120 yards.

The sight is a Zeiss 1.5 to 6a x 42 with Apel.

Best regards

Manuel
