RL16 for 6.5 Creed

Well, I thought I had a good load with RS62 and 143gr ELD-X and have since really struggled to replicate it. Grouping is around 1" and I really want better.

Handed it to a local RFD and he had problems up until reaching the node I found at 43gr. Took it out again today and struggled again. Groupings around one inch.

Starting to get impatient so have ordered some RL16 to eliminate the powder from the equation. Might also try some Sierra 140gr bullets due to them being a bit more economical.

Anyone tried RL16 in the 6.5?

Not used it in 6.5CM but have used it in 6.5 Lapua, 280ai and 338WM. My favourite powder with zero temperature sensitivity.
Nigel, don't know if you've used RS62, but I find the kernel size makes it a pest to meter. Does RL16 meter very easily/accurately ?

I don't think it meter's any better than RS62 but if you throw 95% of the charge and then have a trickler for the last grain or so it's pretty easy and quick to get it to +/- 0.02gr on a Gempro, so if only working to 0.1gr it's fine. You definitely can't throw to +/- 0.1gr - or I can't anyway.

Yup, that's where I'm at, except no Gempro, just my ropey mk 1 eyes and a basic Redding beam scale..

43.1 is max, you got pressure signs?
RS62 shot everything well I put it under.
Try Nosler heads

I think all a Gempro does is make everything take longer. When it's displaying to 0.02gr rather than 0.1gr an extra 2 kernels from the trickler will push it over the charge weight you're after (by 0.02gr FFS) and those OCD amongst us have to get the tweezers out and correct it. It might matter when shooting 1000m but for deer it really isn't required.

yes, in my CM along with 130g sierra game-changers usually(if I do my part) a 5 shot group inside a 5p coin.

42.5 grains rl16 with sierria 140grain sp in mine 2750fps , groups cloverleaf at 100m very consistent , safe load in my rifle obviously work up as normal 👍

I started working up a load for the 143 eldx with Rl16 and RS62. Struggled to find data for RL16/eldx when I did, so thought id share it. RL16 definatly had the edge with velocity, and accuracy was sub moa, but RS62 was more accurate and stable with that bullet in my rifle so never took it any further.

I started to see pressure signs at 43g with RL16, 24” barrel, lapua srp brass and CCI450’s. Velocity at 43g was around 2820fps at 11 degrees. Best accuracy was around 41-41.5 and 2650-2700fps so start low and work up as you usually would.

Was using RL16 with 130gr Berger bullets that shot very accurately but am changing to lighter mono bullets with a faster powder.
