Roe Rut 2015!

Called 3 bucks in this morning with nordik roe. All came in strong within a couple of minutes of starting call. The one that I shot I had to stop with an bark at about 10 yards. All near Banbury.

Most definitely on here in Oxfordshire. Went out last night but nothing responded to the call. Went out this morning and the roe were definitely rutting. Will try to post some photos later.

Gloucestershire, nr. Cheltenham:
Saturday the 19th. July, PM: No barking, no sign of rutting, nothing responding to the call. Shot a young Roe buck which was browsing but it wasn't thanks to calling it in.
Sunday the 20th. July, PM: No barking, no sign of rutting. Roe doe responding to the fawn distress call but no signs of any bucks. Nothing shot.

Shot two bucks this morning in South Staffs area, weather cloudy and humid and both came in quickly to the call. Plenty of does about too.

Photo number 5 with buck holding his nose up in the air.

A classic example of Flehmen ( use of organ of Jacobson,an auxillary olfactory sense organ located in the roof of the mouth) where the buck in this case is air scenting pheromones and also checking if the doe is in oestrous, they hold the scent for a longer time. First time I have seen this in a Roe buck although seen in Fallow and Reds many times. If you watch a dog in presence of a bitch in season they seem to 'chatter' which is the same thing.
Thank you Dom for posting this interesting shot.

I saw the exact same sequence when stalking last weekend. A first for me too.

You're very welcome.

Here's a cropped photo of the same, which is larger for those - like me - who struggle without glasses to see any detail

Hi Tom, just picking up now on the D&S border, no real response to calling yet, watched a doe quickly leave a restocked area last night as soon as a buck showed up, been picking up a few but I think things will improve by the end of the week atb, B.

Cheers B ,I will give people a shout when I see something down here . But really quiet at the moment !
Cheers tom

called an old buck in last night in thick woodland (Oxfordshire) - but he came in very gently, not revved up at all yet but still early so not surprised

Just got back from Wilt's/Berks no movement at all. Called several does but no bucks in evidence and certainly not interested in call.
