Chasing hard in Peeblesshire yesterday morning. Watched a wee buck chasing for about 45 minutes, back and forward over a boundary fence before he stopped long enough on my side to present a shot.

Rubbish weather in Hampshire yesterday evening rain and gusting wind. Does about but no chasing seen. One young buck sheltering in grass stood for the buttolo and was on list so my mrs got him

Slow start to the morning. Very still, cool and a bit misty 1st thing but called this wee fella in once the sun burned through and it warmed up a bit.

This one yesterday evening in Hampshire. Lame for some days; had swollen left front ankle and recent scar. Had been trying to take on a bigger one. No sign of chasing but a lot of movement.

Buttalo worked perfectly this morning buck into 5 yards and had to spook him away a bit to get shot, thankfully wind was in my favour to get him stopped again.

I was out near Banbury yesterday. Couple of small bucks showed some vague interest but no real commitment to call (cherrywood and Nordic) I suspect it’s pretty much done here.

Reading members successes with the Roe rut, I have to say I am having something of a very frustrating time of it this year. Given the wet weather we have experienced in this part of Aberdeenshire hardly any of the corn has been cut with it being so wet, and yes, I can see deer when I'm out. Sadly though only the heads, as when I give a squeak on the Buttilo all heads pop up and even when the odd buck shows interest comes in for a closer look they are still in the standing corn with just their heads above the corn and of course a shot is out of the question. Anyway I am tied up for the remainder of the week {grouse shooting) but hopefully, there will be some rutting activity on the go next week. I have had a shot close to the end of August when checking my journal.

As a matter of interest I have become aware of very few swifts and swallows I have seen this year. Sand Martin numbers when visiting the river, both Dee and Don seem to be as usual. Perhaps the Bird Flue has sadly affected these summer visitors after all. How sad

just about gave up last night but decided one last scan with the thermal,picked up two hot spots well over 300 yards away,got the rifle on the sticks had a scan with the binoculars saw a doe with a buck gave a call with the buttalo and they both came charging in, they both stopped about 150 yards out gave another call and they both came in to less than 100 yards needless to say I went home very happy

Came charging to the call tonight, taken by a guest. Several unattended does around, most have been bred, so the lads are desperate. I usually find this time quite productive.
