rspca and feral cats.

I cannot believe someone has suggested poisoning an animal with anti-freeze. Do you have any concept of how the animal subsequently dies? I lost a lab that way and I can tell you it is awful, takes several days and there is nothing you can do.

A lot of people seriously need to grow up.

Frankly many of the posts I read here suggest to me that many of the individuals concerned shouldn't hold a ticket.

You are among the privileged few in this country to be in a position where you are entrusted to own and use a firearm under conditions which are actually quite liberal when you think about it (no hunting license, testing, membership of club, requirement for insurance etc as you see on the continent for example); If you cannot apply an appropriate level of judgement and responsibility when expressing views here, I'd seriously question whether you do out there.

no seriously feral cats that do not have an owner (clue in the word feral) may be humanely disposed of by shooting. The police will argue that it's illegal using a firearm but with a rim fire conditioned for vermin will be lawful regardless of any ill considered comment by police.

A shotgun certificate has no controlling conditions.

Many years ago when I was in law enforcement on an Indian reservation, myself and a B.I.A officer were called to a farm house south of the small town I was working out of. We passed an ambulance heading north as we pulled into the yard. A 5 y/o child had been mauled by a feral cat while waiting for the bus to pick him up. There was blood everywhere. We were told to get the cat for rabies testing so we proceeded to shoot that feline from hell fifteen times with .357 and 38 Special while it ran around the farm. We finally dragged what was left of it's dead carcass out from under an old car. Even shot to pieces it must have weighed 25 pounds.

The kid was scarred for life. I've not tolerated cats since. If you have feral cats, shoot them with no remorse.~Muir

Whats the "ill considered comment by the police". It is recognised that the shooting of feral cats is perfectly legal, the issue is whether they are indeed feral cats and that the shooting is considered humane.

And also in my experience any argument carried out by the police is done via a law court whilst your firearms have been seized pending the outcome. I also find it difficult to envisage how they could lawfully be shot other than with a firearm.

Its all very well saying this that and the next thing is perfectly legal. It all depends on the circumstances as there are very few cut and dried cases when it comes to circumstances such as posted by the OP
