Rubber from inside petrol hoses at garage since E10

That’s total rip off mate it sounds like the main fuel pump is knackered putting out bits of metal?? Could be wrong but it doesn’t sound like the injectors. I’d say you have been completely ripped off? Although tbh I don’t know a lot about common rail diesels but I’d say the fuel thing is total nonsense.

Nope, the engine would of stopped. The moment a hp diesel pump fails the engine stops, I dare say also that as soon as the ECU sees a rise in excessive amperage draw from the pump it shuts it down and the engine stops. That or a light comes on.
They go into limp mode. That happens when you pick up dirty fuel as well. It's simply a matter of replacing the fuel filter.

I don't know much about Grafters, except that a mate has one and has put over 200,000 largely trouble free miles on it. However I have a 1.6 Caddy and they are notorious for injector problems. There are a no end of theories about what causes it but when mine succumbed a mate who is also an AA patrolman helped replace them and he told me the real problem is water ingress into the injector wells.
Water drips off the undertray below the windscreen and collects around the injectors and rusts them out. VW know this is a problem because they fitted a plastic engine cover to the 1.6 Golf - which the Caddy is based on. But to save a few pennies they didn't bother to fit them to the vans (although all the brackets are there) because they're commercials and don't need to look pretty. Result: after about five years or 60-70,000 miles sitting in water, the injectors fail one after another.

When I bought my Caddy I was the seventh owner. All previous owners had been tradesmen and all worked around Trowbridge/Chippenham, an urban and reasonably prosperous area, so it is highly likely the van spent all its life doing relatively short journeys to and from local jobs. The only way to remove water around the injectors is either to blast it out with air or burn it off on long journeys. If it rarely made any long journeys it's likely its injectors had been sitting in a pool of water from day one.

I don't know whether there is a similar issue with Grafters but it's possible and worth investigating.

With out fuel stabilizing i would say six months . With stabilizers you can extend it for 2 years . No idea if any other methods out there for longer.
My generator fuel (red diesel) stores with out problems for 4-5 months never needed to store it longer , but had reaserched the issue just in case .

Trading standards definately I got ripped off by an Audi garage on a cheap trick that I did not think would be possible these days.

A well known problem on some VAG diesels. The high pressure pump starts to break up and deposits fine metal particles in every part of the fuel system. Can only be fixed by replacing every part in the fuel system. tank, pump(s),filter(s) . all fuel lines, injectors etc. The fuel rubber thing sounds like cobblers. My mates diesel A5 died one day because of the fuel pump failing and was deemed to be beyond economical repair.

I did say buying VW was the first mistake....

Surely if little bits of rubber or metal were getting into the fuel system then the fuel filter is at fault. What’s the harm in fitting another in line filter as close to the engine as possible to catch any remaining stuff.
There is a known problem with bio diesel causing bugs to grow and mess up stored fuel.
I had an 06 Rav 4 that needed a new injector but at 400 each for a car worth 3k I had only 1 replaced.
It sounds like they’re clutching at straws and they haven’t a clue what’s wrong, I don’t think it’s fair they charge you the full amount for not fixing it. Id be too embarrassed to do that.
Apparently the fuel pump is after the fuel filter in a crafter ?
