Not a new subject from me I know but
the subject is the LITTER Type
ive just got back from rural France and have made a comparison when I returned , we in England live in a LANDFILL SITE it’s disgusting , the road systems around our island must have thousand upon thousands of tons of waste along them not something I noticed in France . What’s happening? Cash strapped councils ? More dirty litter louts ? What can we do before we are completely submerged in rubbish

you will not see a change UNTIL we are under it and even then they don't care.

I took a photo in Scotland to show my sister when I got back to Salisbury just how much where we come from had changed,

the first photo was from the top of a hedge showing the campsites in the distance and in the foreground was a new build of homes,

I went to the other side of the road and took it again showing the full shot. FFS.

as you said there was more litter there than I could ever remember seeing as a young boy in that very same spot.

sad is not the word,

bob.

Fly tipping is the bigger problem around here. On one local B road there's sprung up a cluster of 2-3 black sacks every 100 yards for about a mile. The ***** have obviously driven along dumping as they go.
Not to mention the abandoned pikey site adjacent to the same road, which looks as if they only moved out because they could no longer move for the amount of rubbish strewn across the place.

I tore a strip off a woman at work a few weeks ago for saying she was going to pay some gypsies to take her Christmas tree away. Her reply was that at least it'll be gone from her garden

It's easy. Anyone that is fit and able to work, but chooses not to is your answer! Yes you can have your benefits - right after you've spent 37.5 hours per week in a Hi-Viz vest with a bin bag clearing up your local area! I suspect this would also lower the unemployment rate too!;)
Simple!

shut the kfc,s and mcd,s because i will bet every other car that comes from them places throws their crap out the window.every shop has its own flock of seagulls!!

Its not the fast food outlets here, it’s just lazy barstewards. I look after a small block outside the town, it has walks and mountain bike tracks through it for the public to use. The amount of litter is unreal and it’s all from people out to enjoy the countryside. Complained about it but what can you do? The last time I challenged folk about dropping litter I got told to F off, they were primary school kids!

+++ with minimum compulsory 1,000 Hrs of clearing it if convicted of dropping litter. Second conviction 12months on a small island with minimal existance supplies.

totally agree this country if covered in rubbish,i see four or five artic lorries driving along the A34 FROM the recycling center with no nets on top of the trailers and once they are on the road rubbish is spewing out all over the road and it goes on for miles, this is every day of the week.i have reported the company and given registration numbers but no one does any thing about it!

France is massively bigger than the UK, so you don’t see or feel the concentration as much. Plenty of rubbish around Marseille, northern port areas, Paris. And as for the locals......

Its a dumping ground for everything and we are completely submerged with rubbish from everywhere.

what i did see around the ports of Caen and and st malo was very clean and highly policed and armed !!
I drove down to Charente maritime and back and was impressed with the cleanliness in the rest areas and roads not so from Portsmouth to the midlands heart of the shires more ***** of the shires !!
our laybys are just refuse sites full of turds and bottles of phish with a overflowing bin
MS u are on the right track something has to be done give the jobless something to do give them a reason to get up get out and care ! I really think we are becoming a nation of idle slobs

Yes I agree, for instance driving from Folkstone to Dover on the M20 it is unbelievable the amount on the left side of the road (all non brits?who knows) leaving the UK? I am shamed by this behaviour.
I was brought up to hold on to my rubbish until I could find a bin.
If these litterbugs had to do 37.5 hours of pickup per week if caught inflagrante they would think twice before dumping their s@@t out of their pockets in the future.
How about starting a returnable deposit scheme on every Mac meal bag/subway bag/B king bag/ red bull tin etc. It would give an income to low earners like you see being done in the airports in Germany.
I guess the powers that be are too lazy to make it into a national issue.

I am glad that there are others as obsessive as I am about rubbish. My bit of woodland is landlocked with a bridleway running through it and for 11 months of the year it is sparsely used and no litter ,then about June time I get the Duke of Edinburgh kids leaving crisp packets , plastic bottles , half eaten sweets and pies and then they go and crap and leave paper strewn about, and then go and leave the gates open to the new plantation with the resultant deer and rabbit damage , sends me ballistic, the organisers say prove it . I think the first thing I was taught was close gates behind you and don't drop litter,.

Yep. On Sunday I, with three others, spent two hours litter picking a one mile stretch of B road in the Parish. We filled 17 large refuse sacks plus carpet and other stuff that would have filled at least four more. Lots of McDonald's and Costa, beer cans and vodka bottles. It's a small minority who do it.

France is an utter shithole for rubbish. Try any moderately built up area and you will see. Though I agree that the uk has a major problem with scummy fly tippers.

well not from what I saw !! Rennes Nantes LA Rochelle saintes Niort bayeux very tidy

Once upon a time, the cops would have policed litter. Never a great priority, but they once had the capacity to do routine patrols and would pull anyone seen chucking rubbish out of the car and likely do 'em for it. The responsibility is now local councils. They're never going to do that. They might, if they get enough complaints try to sort out a particular spot. But neither the police or councils now have the capacity to do much with litter any more.

Our green and pleasant land is turning into plastic!

There is ample green space on the development where I live in semi-rural Hampshire. The residents association has put up boxes on posts at every bit of green space, with poo bags for the use of. While driving past one such area in the summer I saw a 100 or so of these green bags a blowin' in the wind, swirling around some uncouth youth simulating sex on the ground with is girlfriend. A third youth was vacantly vaping in close proximity, not put off by the antics of his friend with the girl. I got out of my car and started to pick up the bags before they were spread across the entire field and into hedge rows. I railed at these youth of today saying how they could stand there and let these bags blow out of the box and over the green space. They said they were not from the estate, but I surmise they needed the immediate gratification of simulated sex and a quick vape.

I left having done my job, wondering if the kids of today are really into saving the planet. As we are often blamed as the older generation for bequeathing a polluted planet to the next generations.

Our smart lab has started retrieving litter having seen us pick up litter and put it in the gamebag. Fine in the off season put a bit awkward at a smart shoot. Actually, i take that back - everyone needs to do their bit!

I'm not saying we don't have a problem with litter here, we do. Notably after great weather weekends where I am around Port Phillip Bay at Dromana.
But how is this for a remedy of sorts? The state of Victoria has a system where one can report littering, online.
You fill in the time, place and circumstances with descriptions. Photos if you like but most important a car make, model, colour and registration number. There is an option for declaring your willingness to stand up in court if need be, otherwise it's anonymous. The registered owner of the vehicle can be fined in the $600 range for the offence.
For littering at the beach or foreshore or for anywhere else for that matter just following a person back to a car at a distance and gathering the info is sufficient.
Even chucking a cigarette butt out the window of a car or just dropping one attracts the same penalty.
I have to say that I have done it, but only once because I was so angry.
A BMW full of family parked right outside my place, passenger in the back seat opened the door and deposited the cardboard box half full of chicken and chips into the gutter.
I'd already eaten so I took a picture instead, cleaned up the mess and got straight onto the computer.
I haven't heard of any cases being seriously defended in court, I think the cost would be too high.
Grant.

People now residing in this once green and pleasant land have no respect for themselves or the country its a live for today syndrome we are molly cuddling now

I recently got called out to a fast food restaurant to meet the environmental health officer to discuss the migratory rat problem

Post the inspection with the EHO two cars are parked in the corner and the vehicle owners and friends inside the vehicles just threw at least 50% of the food out into the bushes and hard stand when the EHO asked what they thought they were doing they replied - whatever we like and roared off, the bin was 10ft away from the cars

Fast food outlets can't control these people as they are not allowed to under health and safety rules at night and can't clear the debris up fast enough within the permitted time windows set by the company so the employees don't work at risk

This country has gone down hill big time and it won't be getting any better
