Ruger American Replacement Stock Options

Good morning all,

I have the above chambered in .308 win and as my go to stalking and I love it, its accurate, reliable and cheap as chips so I do not care if it gets wet, knocked or muddy on those winter days, however, it has a rotary mag, it does not cycle, well it does but you have to count to 10 and tap the rifle, its horrid.

I have a seen a couple of potential new stocks that have the AR style mags and was wondering if anyone has done this and does it just bolt in?

I am not after pretty, adjustable or special in any way, just a system that I can, if needed, take a second shot without having to faff about.

I have good reliability with the rotary mags in 6.5 so I suspect your mag is defective. Write to Ruger and they will arrange for a free one to be shipped to you.

I bought a MAGPUL. I use their box mags with good results.~Muir

As per Muir I have the MagPul Ruger American Hunter stock, but in my case it’s the 22-250 Predator action and barrel that’s been dropped into it - but using the standard MagPul box magazine to good effect (it’s a 0.5MOA rifle all day long).

The stock is waaay heavier than the original featherweight ‘flexible’ Ruger one, but that’s no bad thing for long distance shooting. What I really like about it is the ability to easily extend the stock length with the included spacers, which makes swapping from day use to add-on Pard NV007 a breeze, and the swappable comb inserts are useful if needed. Various M-Lok locations are also on the stock if you need to hang extra equipment on it (IR illuminators etc.) or a bipod.

Here’s a UK based review of one in .308
