Hi Gents. I am starting to think about what bullet to use when I run through my lead ones. I am not keen to try copper as i shoot mostly Roe which are not that wide and a 0.308 has not got the velocity to open copper up as well as some other calibers. Where would you recommed that I buy a few hundred RWS evo green 30 cal bullets? I would try the gecko tin ones too if they can be had as bullets not cartridges as I quite like the idea of not have a steel jacket wearing the barrel.

I shoot plenty of roe with the RWS HIT in .30-06.

Not sure where you got the idea that .308 has not got the velocity to open up copper as well as the other calibres. That's a load of squit.

The bloke that recommended the hit to me has shot thousands of roe with copper in .308 he wasn't complaining.

I've used Evo Green on roe in my 6.5x55, and HIT in my .30-06 on sika. Both worked well.

Evo Green have the best specifications for Roe.
They have a tin jacket not steel.
RWS state they perform out to 240m.
Buy a box, you’ll find they work.

I hope your wrong cos I am banking on Barnes 110gr Tac-Tx doing exactly that on Roe/Fallow.

RWS Evo Green Hunting 308 139gr

throughly impressed with these, on paper at least. Interesting to see RWS offer a standard version and short rifle version of this ammo. I tried the short rifle ammo through an 18” barrel. 8 fps under the stated velocity over 4 shots

The commission have been using .308 lead free for a couple of years. If you can get it the 162gn Sako Power Blade would be first choice followed by the 165gn Hornady GMX. Both work well on roe and muntjac

Try the 308 Fox ammo. Much cheaper than RWS and it works really well on Roe and on larger deer. I use the 130gn in 7x57 and all Roe have fallen over dead on the spot.

RWS 30cal Evo Green great. I bought factory loads for 30RBlaser. Never a problem with any of the larger species of deer in Britain.

Try the 308 Fox ammo. Much cheaper than RWS and it works really well on Roe and on larger deer. I use the 130gn in 7x57 and all Roe have fallen over dead on the spot.

I didn't find the fox that accurate in both rifles I tried it in tbh factory rounds anyhow

get 130 grain TTSX going ~3000FPS and you’ll have good results on roe out to about 250-300m. I’ve used them on roe, fallow and red deer and had very good results.

Haven't seen anywhere in the UK that one can buy just bullets, only factory loads. If you find any, I would also like to try in 6.5 and .270

RWS Evo Green in my 6.5 x 55 certainly killed a good fallow buck but had a small exit wound so blood tracking would have been difficult. We found it 60 metres from where it was shot using a thermal scope. It certainly mashed the heart and lungs but also ruined a quarter of the carcass. So I’ve gone for the Sako Powerhead 2 in 6.5 x 55 which has been good. The Powerhead Blade is not yet available in the aforesaid calibre. For my .30-06 I’ve used RWS HIT which is monolithic and has been good on Wild Boar (head shot to prevent flight to dangerous cover) and a Fallow. I’m off to Scotland soon to try the RWS HIT .30-06 on red stags so that should be a good test of chest shots. Requirements for me are: 1. Rapid death. 2. Minimal meat damage. 3. Good exit wound for tracking if death not instantaneous. Order of importance probably being 1,3,2.

I have used Nielsen 140gr in 308 and very happy with the results.
I have loaded some 136gr Peregrine which are grouping well, not shot any deer with them yet.

The Fox 130 in 308 is now standard issue to many public and private sector agencies as has now accounted for many many deer of all species with no issues. Put the bullet in the right place it works, put it in the wrong it won’t - a bit like any bullet.

99% of what is said and written about the terminal performance of bullets is unsustained anyway. Unforeseeable and unexpected behavior happens with ALL bullets. There isn‘t even a handful of complete miss-designs that I could name. The Impala comes to mind.

I have been using the 110gr TTSX in 308W, they have been leaving the muzzle at 3050-ish and have worked fine on Fallow, Roe and Muntjac at the sub 150metre ranges I shoot. I have an opportunity on a new permission to shoot up to 300 metres, so have been loading Yew Tree 126.5 and also have a box of the 110gr TAC-TX to try...as the latter were designed for lower velocities of the AAC Blackout they will likely follow a similar terminal effect at 308W velocities at my ranges as the Yew Tree.

I would recommend you buy a box of factory and see if they suit you rifle and hunting rather than jumping in with a few hundred...having said that I haven't seen the Evo Green bullets for sale anyway... the last Evo Green factory I bought was from the classifieds on here, but the first box I had were from R and B Sporting in Ross on Wye.

Are you sure it is a tin case? The front and rear cores are tin. I read that it was a thin wall front section, thicker wall rear section nickel plated gilding metal case.
