Bit of a long shot but does anyone know/ seen a new Sako 90 (ideally peak carbon version) about for sale in 7mm-08?

Cheers

Hi, I haven’t seen one in that calibre, but I have handled a 6.5mm Sako 90 Peak Carbon. It is a thing of beauty and I’m not sure I’ll be able to resist requesting a space on my FAC for one. I haven’t heard any negative reviews - have you?

Suspect it will be special order.

Having handled a 6.5 CM version of the same, its very light (unlike the 85) and trigger is pretty good.

However at £2.8-4k UK RRP it really does not makes sense to buy one off the shelf vs. a specced out parts build.

From GMK:

I believe Sako/Tikka/Beretta are still speccing the 7mm08 as a 1:9.5", ideally you would want 1:8". So another mis-step from them.

For simillar money (£4k) you could spec out a lot of rifle if you picked up a nice Rem 700.

Carbon stock by PSE or chassis by MDT/XRS with ARCA

TriggerTech Special single or two stage

Hawkins or AICS magazine well (Already built into chassis so another saving on bottom metal)

2x magazines

Quality one piece picatinny rail and mounts

ARCA compatible bipod

Maybe have enough left for a scope too!

I have just enquired with my RFD about this very rifle and caliber It is a special order which currently looks like 8 months and its a 1:9.5 twist rather the the 9 or faster it should be.

Please what's the reason behind the need for 1 in 8" ??

Personally I think 9twist etc is a red herring. 9.5 stabilises a 162gr eldm anything more than that is not really 7-08 territory

Can't agree, with the push towards copper bullets, the faster twist the better.

Tikka/Sako/Beretta are going to have to pump out 1-8" 7mm barrels for the 7PRC, which they should be doing already since the 7PRC was designed to fit a T3x action.

Remington's decision to screw the same 1:9.25" twist barrels from the Rem Mag's onto their 7mm08 was a wise choice, even though the SAAMI spec is 1:9.5"

They have already decided to increase the twist rates of their 6mm barrels from 1:10" to 1:8", so it should have been an easy decision to make.

However it is owned by the Beretta group...

I agree there is no harm but I wouldn’t say it should unduly influence 99% of potential owners. I can’t believe the throating allows for anything other than massively deep seating of anything so long and even if it did is a Sako 90 owner really going to single feed rounds with a COL over mag length? I doubt it.

Don't be fooled by the above RRP's, they can be had for much less. I have one, a .243 90 Peak, due to land in the second week of January and being a frugal Yorkshireman.....

What you get one for if you don't mind me asking... I'm also possibly looking for a peak.. probably in 6.5. PM if you prefer

I'm happy to expand on here:).

It will be stalking in England and pest/vermin with some recreational target. At the ripe old age of ? I decided to dip my toe into the staking world. I'm booked on the DSC1 this coming May and an acquaintance at my local range, who is a long time stalker, has offered his services to mentor and document my progress then liaise with the Police when the time comes to ask for the rifle to be conditioned for use over land.

The Police would not allow use over land, for now, and I understand that so I will be using my mentors rifle and equipment on his land whilst familiarising myself with my new acquisition on ranges and at my clubs.

Calibre choice? I've spent the last seven years working up the ladder from .22LR, ,22 WMR, .222 Rem, .223 Rem and .243 is as far as I would like to go really now that the copper situation is becoming clearer. I'm not a home loader however I get more than perfectly acceptable accuracy from factory, especially from the .222 Rem, and supplies are readily available at modest prices.

Rifle choice? Possibly the last rifle that I will purchase so I wanted something a little bit special and different, which to me it is, though it won't take top spot from my S&L Legacy.

Sounds very reasonable.. I'm sort of in the same boat..always used and bought tikka rifles, have in .223 and 30-06, but now find my daughter and wife looking to do more shooting with me now so looking at 6.5 (dare I say the creedmoor) to reduce the recoil, this will probably be my last stalking rifle and always fancied the Sako, and the peak version looks excellent.

Cost wise looks around £3140, anyone know any deals to be had on new?

I think the chap wanted to know how much you paid and how much under RRP it was.

Oh I see, I fell into the dreaded trap of internet misinterpretation, here you go! £3100 so £795 under book.

I seem to remember finding one for slightly less, maybe £50, but it was a full day away from home and this one is less than an hour up the road.

The Peak in 7.08 with a 9" twist is listed as in stock in Australia.

As said earlier NZ is the 7.08 capital of the world and presumably that helps availability in Aus.
