Sako 90

Why is the 75 better than the 85, the later has controlled round feed.

I am delighted with my 85.
The bedding.

85 has a very odd arrangement with a little metal plate screwed into the stock that mates with a small round lug on the action. It can (and often does) cause problems with accuracy.

The 75 had a very chunky recoil lug that was part of the action.

I used two 75 for years, no problems with it. It did feel a bit heavy(ss mod)/ pooly balanced. I he had a 85 and still use that. It again hasn't gave any problems and is a bit lighter/better balanced. I would notice any difference over one or the other with regards to controlled feed or not. Both were used fulltime. The recoil lug does look as if it was an after thought on the 85. All 3 were accurate, functional

The 90 might be a "facelift" of the predecessor but does it need to be anything else? It's spec certainly interests me, inparticular the quest ultra. I would have liked to see the use of flush cup sling swivels both on the undercarriage and the side of the stock.

I started with a 75 (.243 Hunter) and then “progressed” to an 85 (.308 SS). Whilst I liked many aspects of the 85 I kept on getting random fliers that I simply didn’t get with the 75 or the S20 that replaced it. I still have and love that 75 after 27 years! I love all aspects of my .308 S20 bar the weight and in an effort to lightened up my stalking outfit, I bought a Tikka T3X Wideland Veil which spookily appears to have the same receiver arrangements on the top (accepted very different bedding below) and barrel as the S20 - fire-formed neck sized rounds from one fit the other and vice versa. Anyway, where I was heading with this was I was struck the the S20, T3X and now Sako 90 appear to have the same upper receiver/port arrangements so I agree wholeheartedly that the 90 is in many respects just a facelift of the Sako/Tikka in-house styles.

Rifkemags.Co.uk. As for McMillan you can get a flat top and have it inletted (is that a word?) here.

It’s the added expense of inletting over here. I can’t imagine it will be any less than £300 for something that was included.

I know an Australian firm were making them but didn’t know riflemags were bringing them in I will have a look. Thank you.

Can you get them in the U.K.?

I’m still annoyed McMillan stopped inletting for Sako 85.
I managed to grab one of the last McMillans inletted for an 85, and having done so will most likely keep this rifle forever, it’s definitely worth a rebarrel now when the time comes. If I hadn’t, I’d most likely have changed it for a new sako 90 or a t3x.
Pic of my mate using it to grass his first stag shows the camo swirl at work.

Like the look of the Sako 90 Adventure, anyone know if there is one out there to have a look at and what price they are coming in at.

Gosh been shooting the thing through 2 barrels from the lauch date and this is a first for me . you of corse know the saying never make an assumption as it ...... U& Me. Perhaps a rouge batch ?
Could indeed be a rogue batch. GMK seemed to be aware of the issue so there’s certainly been other examples than mine.

My own sako 75 with its McMillan ! Its an absolute copy of the sako 75 hunter stock , they literally moulded off one. Yet a number of years later Sako made the later 85 and took out the palm swell and a few other features.IMG_20211027_100415.webp

The first 85`s had a straight Classic stock with shadowline cheekpiece. This was soon changed to a mini montecarlo perhaps to differentiate it from the T3 which had almost exactly the same stock shape. I also have a McMillan for my 75.20190607_144234.webp
