Sako 90

I used to be a real Sako 85 fan, but I’m more than happy with my Tikka T3X and my Mauser M12, both better rifles in my opinion. I‘ve read reviews of the 90 it just reads as an upgrade / face lift on the 85. Expensive as well.

Saw this on The Firearm Blog:

"The receivers feature a flat bedding interface"

No change here it seems!

Cheers

ok interested to learn more of what actually occurred and how it started ? Must say i actually used it on on one trip , then reverted to my old way for ever more ( locking the case and locking the case to an impoval object and keeping the bolt on my person ) . the only problem i have known about was a chap who locked the gun and then lost his key , went back to sako and he got it back a lot lighter in his wallet
Likewise I never used the bolt lock mechanism. My SAKO 75s are secondhand so I can't tell you whether it's using this lock that causes the issue or, my assumption, that it's repeated recoil that causes it.

The bolt lock mechanism that retains the bolt locking pins in the "open" position fails, meaning that occasionally (not always), when you load, these lock pins fall into place and then the action won't fire.
Bolt open/close was unaffected, so you wouldn't know it had happened- until you came to squeeze off a shot.
The temporary fix was to open the bolt and give it a punchy reload- most times that freed the firing pin up- and if you were lucky the deer was still in the same county after the swearing and crunching.
The proper fix was to get GMK to replace/repair that element of the bolt action (name eludes me).

Interestingly not many "gunsmiths" were aware of this issue and I had one insisting blue-in-the-face that it was my reloading. c 2011

A bit of leaked info from RFD, starting price for the new Sako £3.2k….. Suppose we’ll have to wait till 10am tomorrow morning to find out….

You were right...

Here's a more complete list of prices, all without sales tax. The Quest Ultra is not listed on Beretta Aus.

Hunter AUD 3045 (GBP 1635)
Hunter Stainless AUD 3235 (GBP 1737)
Quest AUD 6363 (GBP 3416)
Peak AUD 5454 (GBP 2928)
Bavarian AUD 3226 (GBP 1732)
Adventure AUD 4454 (GBP 2391)
Varmint AUD 3180 (GBP 1707)

No info on when they will be available. Doesn't worry me much as I'll be sticking with my AI and my 85s :)

Cheers

10%, we don’t half get rogered in this country!

I guess that means they would be slightly cheaper here if it wasn’t for our VAT rate.

Apologies, picked this up late but I found it interesting..

Country Deer Stalking :

“Truth is, the Sako 90, is simply an improvement on the Sako 85. It is effectively an upgrade, a facelift if you will. In the same way as the Sako 85 was an upgrade on the Sako 75.”

I thought it was very much the opinion that the 75 was better than the 85? You do wonder if most of these articles are paid promotions and not particularly accurate.

I’m positively surprised, but still shocked they did not put a full length rail on there, they did not add flush cups, and are not offering two Mags as standard. Also, they should be offering a 0 full length and a 20MOA full length rail.
You can buy an extra mag for £100 or so I'm sure. nothing is free. Offering anything extra as standard basically means that everyone is paying more for the standard unit. Would the average stalker ever use a second mag or a 20MOA rail regularly? Probably not? No company should penalise everyone for the sake of the few!
I like the look of it. Maybe I will own one one day. Who knows? The price looks about right for modern times and those complaining that the prices are twice what they paid for their set up are in luck because in a few years time they can pay the same for a second hand Sako 90 package. Every time a manufacturer brings out a new item is good news for those who want to upgrade but cannot afford the latest model because lots of tech junkies will upgrade and offload their previous units.
There are lots of rich stalkers out there gents. They may lot shoot thousands of deer a year but they will still spend £1000's on new equipment which funds the development of new kit!

This. They need to sell rifles. The older I get the more cynical I get.....

Yeah, read that article. Seems that the author doesn't know the difference between extraction and ejection!
