Hi All,

I've just had a variation through for a .308 as an all round stalking rifle.

Having been looking for a little while, and Iike the look of the Sauer 100. Its seems by all accounts well built, very accurate and has a good trigger.

Can anyone recommend this rifle? And more importantly, if anyone knows of any isuses with this rifle that I can expect, that would be much appreciated!

Regards,

Llyr

Got one in 6.5 creedmoor. I really like mine. Smooth bolt, great trigger, nice ergonomics, has grouped well pretty much everything I’ve fed it (1 inch 100yds, most 1/2 inch - 6 brands of ammo from s and b to eld-x and Norma match) and doesn’t cost the earth. Changing barrels doesn’t seem possible or is difficult at best but then you have to ask yourself if you’re going to shoot enough to wear out the barrel any time soon. If so may better to spend a little more and get one where you can. There seem to be some 101s kicking about at good 2nd hand prices too.

Mine is ceratech coated and that does seem to chip off a little too easily in my view. However perhaps most rifles with it do.
I’ve not had too much experience with that coating to be able to compare.

Finally I really like sauer looks but that’s definitely subjective.

I shot one at the French Foire de Chasse at Mantes-la-Jolie. In 7x64. I liked it actually. Very nice. I also shot a Sauer 404. I didn't like that at all.

Just picked one up in .223. I'm not taking her home to meet mother yet, but I like her.
I've only put about 30 rounds through it so far, out on the farm, to get it sighted in and make a couple of groups.
Proper range session booked for Tomorrow. Wait, out.
A mate of mine who bought his first .308 last year went for the Mauser M12 Impact. That's also a nice rifle.

I've owned many Sauers (80s, 90s, 202s) and now a 100 Fieldshoot in 6.5 Creedmoor. I don't think the finish and general workmanship is comparable to the earlier rifles but mine at least is extremely accurate and consistent. I tried 13 different handloads through mine and they ranged from very good to excellent, with none that I'd even consider average. It's not perfect, the magazines bulge when fully loaded with 5 rounds, chambering the top (5th) round is stiff, and the action can't match the smoothness of a 202 let alone a 90. The trigger is excellent but I couldn't adjust mine below 900g. The manual is hopeless, with some very odd translations into English. I have seen a review where the bedding insert has been loose, but I haven't taken the stock off mine yet to check. The scope mounting follows Remington 700 long action geometry, so you're spoilt for choice. The Sauer Hexalock system is fairly priced (from Ivythorne) but I put a steel Warne rail and rings on mine. Overall I'm very pleased with it.

I’ve got one in .243, it’s brilliant. Accurate, nice to use, well made etc. I’d definitely make the same purchase again. My only quibble with it is that the safety catch is easy to knock off. But then again, we shouldn’t be relying on them completely after all.

I got one in 30.06 and it is a splendid rifle to shoot, well made accurate and light. And the 3 position safety is great Hope it helps

Well, I didn't take it to the range, I took it stalking instead.
It seems to work.

Thank you everyone for your feedback. I ended up buying a Mauser M12 in a certain package deal advertised on here.

I am extremely happy with my purchase as the step in quality is significant. Cant wait to get out now!

Thank you,

Llyr
