nothing wrong with a custom, but what’s the resale going to be on most custom rifles after a few years? Also, there’s no guarantee they will be better, been down the route of building from parts and also had problems.

Aye you are right, they go for nowt SH. Still I don’t buy a rifle looking to sell it, for the sum of money involved I want the ultimate precision tool, I think that’s best achieved by a custom.

I simply can’t reconcile the value of these rifles, 5 years ago the same barrelled actions (pretty much) were being sold for half the price, there seems to be a trend for thumbhole carbon stocks and some folks will fork out almost any figure to be in this club-that’s the basis for the price differential as far as I can see.

But seriously the thing that bothers me about all the new kit is the cost and the fact that newcomers believe that you need 10K of rifle, optic and knife to get a deer.
Although I have no problem with people spending their hard earned on whatever they want I do get a warm fuzzy feeling when I hear about people using cheap kit and still being successful.

I really wouldn't let it bother you, In my opinion if you can afford to buy a nice gun go and buy one, If you cant afford it buy a cheap one, It's like buying a car, cheap one gets you from A-B but people still go out and buy expensive ones the world would be a boring place if there wasn't choice.

i think this is an aluminium alloy action, possibly down to over torque, although the ones I have are steel actions.

I understand that no 404s come from steel.

That is why I said that they are materials that do not convince me and that if the colleague bought one, he should take special care with that work.

It had a Sauer 404 on 404 Jeff and a 202 on 375 H&H.

I could check that modular weapons are not to my liking.

I have looked at the 404 many times .
The only things I don’t like on the 404 is the decocking safety Which feels very stiff to me on display rifles though it might wear in ?and the price of spare mags.
I love the travel case For the 404 and just wish my 202 would fit in one

there is one for the 202, it’s not quite as compact but still very good and has a combination lock.

I have that one but the 404 case is just so much more inconspicuous when travelling .
