Sauer soft touch stock

Hi guys

I have a sauer 101 with the soft touch stock. It has become really sticky, anything I use to clean it doesn’t have any effect and cloths etc just stick to it.

Anyone any experience with these stocks or suggestions on how to clean would be great

Do you want to clean, or remove the Duratouch coating? To clean - Le Chameau rubber boot spray. To remove - 1 x dishwasher tablet boiling water and a stiff brush, repeat as required.

Rubbing a paste of Bicarbonate of Soda took the sticky coating off my Benelli semi….. have to say it did take me a couple of years to pluck up the courage! 🤣 In the end I wish I’d done it sooner!

The trouble with using solvent or alcohol is that it evaporates.. leaving the sticky mess still on the stock 🫤 With the bicarb you can just wash or water it down and carry on. 🙂

As 308rws says… a stiff nail brush got the paste into the checkering on my stock and generally helped take it off once I’d got it rubbed in.

Taking the coating off didn’t change the base colour of my stock either. Result.

Had the same problem with my soft touch stock (sauer 202) and I solved it brilliantly by removing the coating with White Spirit and scrubbing with steel wool scrubber. Problem solved

Right - spent this afternoon attacking the sticky stock.

UPvC cleaner - no joy
Brake cleaner - no joy
Jizer engine degresaser - that worked.

Wire wool (or at least the stuff from Wickes in packs of 3) wasn't much help and just deposited bits of wire wool.

Best thing was a sponex metal dish scourer (other brands are available).

Took me about 30 mins to take all the gunk off the stock, wipe with a wet cloth to remove the Jizer and then a towel down. Some marking on the stock, but nothing worrying and let's be honest - it's a plastic stock not fine walnut.

There may be other options, but this definitely worked for me.

All ready for Africa next week!
