Schultz & Larsen questions

A few questions about S&L rifles...

Are there any stock options for Schultz & Larsen rifles that aren't wood? I'm not interested in ruining a nice bit of timber, but from what i've seen of the rifles and actions, they do appeal.

How do people find them? I don't think i've seen a second hand one for sale which says something.

Given it's a switch-barrel system, is the action length the same for every cartridge? I assume so.

Does the 'Tactical' action option take the sporter-weight barrels? Presumably there must be stock options for this - i can't see any online.

The tactical action seems to take the same barrels as the Victory. I couldn't see any difference. Yes they have a tactical carbon stock for the Tactical or Victory action.

I really, really like my 30-06 S&L Victory, the action is beautifully made, all steel and smooth as a greased ferret in use. Trigger superb, I've got the singe stage but there is a 2 stage option.
Switch barrel method is very solid, the calibre choice is pretty comprehensive (Ive got a 338-06 barrel on order) and its only when switching to magnum calibre's that you have to look at a different bolt. You may have to change magazines depending on calibre choice but yes the action length is the same. Have a look at the S&L website or Alan Rhone for more details.
Regarding stocks, Ive got a very nice grade 2 on my Victory, largely as I fancied a rifle with decent wood and never got on with composite stocks other than the PSE ones. I have heard there are plans in the pipeline for an off the shelf composite option (its certainly been asked for), but there are laminate options available from GRS and KKC that are pre fitted, Form stocks down in the west country also have an option for having an action fitted. If I used mine as a dedicated foxing/utility/back-of-the-truck rifle Id definitely look at one of those options.
I dont think you'll ever regret getting an S&L, they just feel right, are very, very accurate and the build quality is superb. I'll be getting another when my other calibre's wear out!

I'm another who's chuffed to bits with my S&L Victory. Like andychas, I'm not keen on a composite stock - I prefer wood (an age thing???:old:). I coughed for Grade 4 wood, and the finish is superb (and very tough). There was an absolutely stunning Grade 5 stock, but it doubled the price of the rifle!

I have a 7x57 and 25-06 barrel for mine. It's an easy swap. To get over the scope issue (6x42 for 7mm, and 8x52 for the .25-06), I fitted Ziegler mounts, then bought an extra set of rings for the 8 power scope, so, change barrels, take one scope off, pop the other one on and away you go. Have had no zero issues so far.

I would really recommend that you have a good look at the S&L range - they are extremely well built, easy to look after, and very, very accurate.

Have a look at their Facebook feed - some posts there show their latest products including composite tactical stocks. They respond promptly to email too.

Give Steve at Ivythorne a ring as he was mentioning something about a composite stock for the victory being in the pipeline. Regards SBM

I think they're great rifles - I have two Victorys, one in .308 and one with two barrels in .300WM and .25-06. Very pleased with them both and they are both very accurate.

They do make composite stocks as well though I've not seen on in the flesh myself. Steve at Ivythorn mentioned S&L were doing them the last time I was up there.

In terms of swapping the barrels out its a pretty simple process - Two bolts gets the stock off and then another two loosen the barrel. Just whip the one barrel out, slot the new one in and then insert and close the bolt for that barrel to set the headspace, then tighten the two barrel bolts again and replace the stock. Thats it!

Give Steve at Ivythorn a call - he is an excellent RFD with top notch service, and has a great selection of kit.
