Scone Game Fair

Hi all

Quick heads up that Monarch & Moray Outfitting will be sharing a stand again at next weekends Scottish Game Fair - looks like the weather forecast is very good so should be a great show!

We will have our usual great deals on lardering equipment, Rovince Anti-Tick clothing, Lowa Boots and lots more.

This year both our business's will be showing a range of Vortex Diamondback & Viper scopes & bino's including the Fury range finder model and the near bomb-proof Defender scope lens caps.

Andy & John will obviously be on hand to discuss any DSC1 or DSC2 course requirments as well as their newest venture the "Forest Hunter Course" - check this out on the link below:

Look forward to catching up with our customers old & new :thumb:

Road signs for game fare if you are coming from A9 south sends you up the A9 north through Lunkarty / Stanley then turn off at beech hedges near Blairgowrie,,,,,, Ffs ignore them they put 15 miles on your journey, go into Perth and follow signs for Blairgowrie will save a lot of mucking around
not only do the game fair people rip you off with extortionate entry and parking fees , but the council make you take a 15 mile detour to try to avoid traffic problems
look up your maps and trust your gps straight through the centre of perth and take the Blairgowrie road is the shortest route
cheers

Went to the fair again this year, and was, again, disappointed. Seems that there are less and less of the trade stands, and more of the "tat" for want of a better word. Yes, it's a good place to meet people and share the craic, but at £20 plus the £4 parking fee, it's an expensive blether. So probably give it a body swerve for the next couple of years, or go to the Moy fair, which has the same sort of stuff at half the entry price.

We got straight in off the M90 via the Friarton Bridge, straight through Scone at 9;00am, no dramas and straight in.
it is turning into more of a Country Fair, than a game fair, but there was still more than enough to keep most satisfied.
I’ve been and worked there when it was smaller,....no terrier show today, no ferrets on display, so maybe lacking a mix.

Covenantor, You mst have missed out a section of the showground. There was a guy doing ferret demonstration work in the row of stands at the back of the food hall. Were you looking for a terrier show or racing. Racing was going on both days. Do think the heat was bothering everyone. We could watch folk going past that were plodding and not paying attention till I spoke to them. But yes some folk are right . A well organised show but the feeling is that there was a "buzz" missing. Still we will all try again next year. Expecting the heavens to open just before Moy now. J

Aye,the ferrets used to be more central but were on the far side this year so could have been missed easy enough.

As for the heat,Saturday was horrendous for me and was done in by 1600.
Heres hoping Moy gets a decent couple of days too.

Its an old chestnut and ultimately I'm not sure there is a complete answer. Via Monarch we had a pretty substantial selection of Vortex Optic products there to have, hold, try and compare. Nothing gets on the shelf unless we are content its worth a place/ having and everything comes with as much chat/ advice as you can wave a stick at ( from Sandy on the stand opposite ). Repeatedly got situation of ' I m so glad I came and got the chance to try stuff in person because x,y or z changed my opinion' but Optical super Express R Us have the same model £40 cheaper/ my mate is on holiday in the US and can get it at Bass Pro for $1.50 etc etc.

Some distributors still support shows and some have pulled out. But overall placing a product before folk at shows is often thankless and always costly.

The show organisers want to fill stand space and if 7 gun dealers/ distributors pull out then eventually on the Battique Clothing/ Tie dye rug and Artisan biscuit traders remain. Its a downward spiral.

The above aint having a pop at anybody. Its a free market and no one wants to pay over the odds - but folk need to be clear on what they buy; sometimes its more than just the product. Of course that absolutely works vice versa too and traders have things to think about. ultimately we're all in a fairly niche field of interest and all parties - from show organisers to Joe & Josephine punter and all parts in between need to work on a vibrant fair market - because it matters to us all.

Aye saw the ferrets had moved over to the area of the archery, marines, world of dogs. Despite being desperate for rain, Just hope Moy is not like last year, it was a washout.

I enjoyed it. I went with a non shooting mate and he enjoyed it as much as I did. I was a little surprised at all the non shooting stuff there, but it meant the show is much bigger than it would be otherwise, so we got a whole day of wandering around it for our money and we also decided to bring the other halves next year so they can go look at the "Battique Clothing/ Tie dye rug and Artisan biscuit traders" :D - though we did have a bit of a look at some of them too.

As said above, the opportunity to handle/get a close look at some of the gear is really good as in many gun shops it's not possible to just browse and take your time (plus for us its a considerable journey to the nearest), so shows are great for that. Sometimes you might not make the purchase that actual day of course.

Visited the Gamefair once again with my brother. Costing us £44 in total to get it in.
There seems to be less shooting/fishing stalls every year. However must say thanks to Robb on the Monarch stall for his usual help on getting new Vortex scope covers.
I agree it's more about meeting old faces now.

Dortmunds jagd und hund show cost 15 Euros in 2018 and car parking was 7 Euros extra so the Scone fair price seems par for the course.
