Scotland at eastern??

Hi,

I would like to make a tour through Scotland at Eastern, probably around 6 to 7 days

Anything I should not miss and I really need to see/ visit with the family ?

Anything hunting related that is interesting and dad time?

Any really nice hunting/rifle shops to visit ?

Maybe a nice restaurant or pub that isn’t mentioned in all the touristic vouchers

And of course also recommendations about whiskey tastings or visiting besides the most popular are also very welcome

I do indeed mean Easter . Probably arriving around 6 or 7 April and staying around 7-8 days. I will be with my car (4x4)

Depends on where you plan to be.
In the Angus / Dundee area you have Glamis Castle to visit with family but I believe they do have roe deer stalking as well.
The Strathmore Arms in the village does good food for a decent price.
If the family like walking there are a number of small routes in the area, the walk up Balmashanner Hill (known to us locals as Bummie!) gives a spectacular view over the Strathmore valley.
Then you have the new V & A design museum in Dundee, be aware it is a museum of designs that have made their mark in history and not a museum in the traditional sense.
There are plenty of eating places in Dundee well to many to mention but I like the Pancake Place in the city centre if you're visiting during the day and like pancakes.
If you like to try sea fishing then Arbroath is a good pace to start and you could probably get out as part of a team. There's the abbey where the Deceleration of Arbroath was originally put together.
That's just a small part so you need to be a bit more accurate as to where you're staying for journey times.
Glasgow to Dundee 1hr 45min: Edinburgh to Dundee 1hr 15min: Dundee to Aberdeen 1hr: Aberdeen to Inverness 2hrs 15min.
Also the road from Glasgow to Aberdeen by way of Dundee is covered by average speed cameras so you can't joyfully zip about without a care in the world.

Thanks already !!!!! I will definitely be able to use some of these.

My wife is arranging some kind of tour and a friend who has a travel agency will put something together considering the tour and hotels so if I find out more where we are going /sleeping I will post it over here for more insider advice

Don't bother! Last time my wife and I were there I had a fingernail in my meal. I tried to convince myself it was a fish-bone, but failed miserably. Shame, as previous visits were good.

I wouldn't even consider Strathmore Estates for roe either. Unless, of course, you fancy relieving yourself of about a grand. They're geared up fro European hunters more than locals, and the prices have the arse torn out of them.

Be useful to know if you have a particular area you want to focus on?

I have no particular area in mind, not yet. First time in Scotland and only a week so definitely too short to enjoy everything. Also will try to make it nice enough for my wife and daughter that way I’m sure they want to come back afterwards

Sorry, I missed this. It's quite a boring drive up to Gleneagles if you take the M90 north? If you have time, I'd recommend you drive up the East coast, and take in the East Neuk of Fife. Once you get North of the utter sh*tehole that's the Southeast of Fife you'll find some beautiful coastlines up to St Andrews. Then I'd head through Dundee and head north to the Cairngorms National Park via the A90 (cutting away to the Northeast at Edzell)? You can take in Ballater, Balmoral, Crathie as you head up the Old Military Road. The scenery is spectacular, and you'll see red deer, grouse, blackcock, and very likely Golden Eagles. That sets you up nicely for a trip through to Pitlochry, and either North to Inverness, or West to Oban, etc. You can easily stop off at Gleneagles on the way back down to Edinburgh? I'd recommend Stirling Castle, Doune, and Callander on your way back down too. You pass all these places anyway.

That would give you a nice variety of what Scotland has to offer, I reckon?

We will arrive by night boat at Newcastle. We will stay in a Hotel in Edinburgh for 2 nights ( might be 3, not sure) , then we wil go to Pitlochry for 1 night, Glencoe for 2 nights and end in Auchterarder for 2 nights.

Any advise on things I have to see ( nature, whiskey, lochs, huntings stores,....) is still welcome !!!!

The drive from Perth, via Blairgowrie over Glenshee to Braemar & Crathie/ Balmoral is excellent.
Then Crathie to Tomintoul & Grantown on Spey.

Grantown - Dalwhinnie then passing Loch Laggan to Fort William, then back south via Glencoe, & Loch Lomond to Glasgow ...enjoy!

Plenty of very good advice above.

Mibbee if u say wot sort of interests and hobbies u and ur family have to get more specific ideas.

House of bruar on A9 is worth a visit, not really a sporting/gunship but a bit of everything always busy with tourists but pricey.

Plenty of nice scenery and history even just north of Glasgow/stirling, Loch Lomond, Trossachs and queen eliz forest park
So if time really tight u don't have to go miles to get a taste of Scottish scenery quite a few nice wee loop journeys u could easily travel from edinburgh in a day.
Edinburgh castle is good too.

If ur feeling a bit more adventurous try Nae Limits extreme sports, just up A9, some off the best white water rafting in the world, they do other stuff too.

If u have time try and travel a wee bit of the west coast the sea is so clear and scenery amazing.

Not a great time for sporting interests thou

If ur into nature, might be worth trying to find some black cock/grouse and get up early to see them lekking, can be an amazing sight

You are visiting the most beautiful part of the UK in my opinion.

If you wish to visit Distillery then this one is not far from Pitlochry. Dewar's Aberfeldy Distillery - Perthshire Whisky Distillery & Dewar's Scotch

15 Minutes from Pitlochry is Blair Castle. Blair Castle, Pitlochry, Perthshire- 5* Visitor Attraction and Campsite

Another Distillery to try is Dalwhinnie Distillery. Can't give a link as the website is down. This would work on your journey to Glencoe if you go A9 to Dalwhinnie and then A889-A86 to Fort William and Glencoe.

I am surprised 'woodsmoke' has not mentioned House of Bruar as worthy of a visit .
