Scotland snaring ban to come into force

The Scottish Government has notified BASC that it plans to implement the prohibition on all snares from 25 November of this year.

While snares were prohibited under the recent Wildlife Management and Muirburn Bill, a specific enforcement date was not provided. BASC argued against a total ban, advocating for using modern snares (or humane cable restraints) in wildlife management, citing their benefits for biodiversity and predator control.

Despite this, the Scottish Government chose to pursue an outright ban.

BASC continues to oppose the ban and will monitor the impact of this decision on predator control and wildlife management.
