Scotland the Brave??

Like others have mentioned I thought this was meant to be a once in a generation vote. But a few years later it looks like its happening again. I will be surprised if Scotland vote for independence because I haven't seen any reason for there to be any stronger vote for independence since the last referendum. Some people may say they want to be back in the EU but I would say sod the EU the way they treated us through brexit and their sh1t show of a vaccination programme. Also I think Boris will dig his heels in and refuse it if he can? I just think its a fat waste of money doing another referendum only 7 years later.

^^ This, and don’t forget the Natsis are themselves deeply divided on several issues, not least the ‘Leave Westminster but give it up independence to Brussels’ aspect, for a variety of reasons.

I'm pretty much on the fence with independence and definately no fan of SNP or EU for that matter.

BUT this once in a generation quote is only the shortened version of the quote, it was once in a generation or after significant constitutional change.

I would say Brexit qualifies as a significant constitutional change and especially so after the way the No vote used EU.
It was the NO sides major pledge, probably the biggest 1 vote no to stay in Europe.

It wouldn't have altered how I voted ( as I voted for Brexit anyway) but Scotland was fairly strongly against Brexit
Also the vote was only 5% difference only 3% more than ur Brexit vote.
Ur not talking about an awful lot of votes to swing it.

If remain won the Brexit vote many on here would be bitter about it but even more so if 1 off the major pledge was a lie.

I do think they are justified to ask for a 2nd indy ref, but this 1 really should be a once in a generation and should be written in the consent to allow it.
But only because the No side made such a big deal about it, and back then even Nigel farage would never imagine his his wildest wet dreams he would win the brexit vote

As I've said before referendums like this and brxit vote are far to major an issue to be decided on a 50 50 split, really need to be a 60 40 or even higher split so u had a real good majority wanting it.
As seen with Brexit when it's too tight u don't fully have the will of the people and just causes to much resentment for too many.
Even if u were on the losing side but 60 or 70% wanted the opposite it would be easier to take as such a clear decision.
49/51 is not a clear mandet for such a major change

The 30% that goes to Europe - fishing, agriculture, whisky, all financial services - a lot of Edinburghs financial distract was the back office for major European operations - those are all now in Amsterdam.

And all the tech and life science companies are setting up European operations as that is where all their major markets, investment and talent can be found.

All the latter effects are not captured in the numbers - but are real lost opportunities.
Sorry - that’s just bollox

Although the SNP are crowing about a historic victory, which it may be in terms of seat number it is highly likely that their percentage of the total vote are gone down. I am not a betting man but I reckon that the if there was another Indy referendum tomorrow percentage of those that supported them in the Holyrood election would not support independence. It may still be close but I don't think the mood of teh majority is for independence,
I agree with that.
I suspect most are voting SNP due to the lack of a reasonable alternative, not because they want independence.
If there was a referendum tomorrow I strongly suspect the union would remain.
