No - not what you all have thought like for ever!
I have lost a socket cap screw from my scope mount on the 6.5x55SE soooo can any of you clever SD lads give me a clue about what I need to replace it and where to source it please?
Photo attached below - I have measured it as 35 x 3.35 of those new metric thingies but threading - not a clue.
Many thanks chaps…

Hi, I would think it is M3.5x35, to confirm the size the screws in your wall sockets are M3.5 so you could check a wall socket screw against the thread to confirm. They’re available on the internet, I would also say it is a low profile cap head, so search ‘M3.5x35 low profile cap head screw’.

M3.5 is not an easy size to find in my experience. I’m pretty sure in the past I have sourced machine screws & bolts in this size from online modelling suppliers. They usually sell them pre packed in smaller quantities.

You might have already tried this but if you do a reverse image search with Google Lens or similar and also search the relevant dimensions it might get you to where you need to be....

The most common use of m3.5 is in electrical fittings, to screw the switch or 13amp socket to the box in the wall.
I would try a screw from such a fitting to test for the correct thread.

also how long is the threaded part and how many threads?

you also measure cap head screw length by excluding the head.

Great info - thank you sir.

I concur - cos I have looked everywhere - on the carpet, at her insistence- in Lady FB’s sewing box (I think she heard me mention threads…), even in my little box of ahem, screws but find it I cannot.
Lady FB has lovingly reminded me of our new dog’s mildly endearing penchant for lifting and swallowing things so my search has now widened to include my large magnet….
