Anyone else here eat them?
Had a pit-stop earlier and grabbed a couple. 9km South of the Tropic of Cancer (in case anyone wonders)
Fabulous eating. I would have had more but like I said, it was a pit-stop.

Try them, they are mighty.

I had some in France maybe now fifteen plus years ago. For those that want to try them or at least "make at home" something you might call "mock sea urchin" as once "mock turtle" soup. Get some cheap seedless strawberry jam and mix in some salt. Serve chilled from inside an emptied half eggshell you've painted black and charge the diner 20 € for five.

One of the nicest things to come out of the sea! I've only had it in Japanese sushi restaurants but even thinking about it makes the mouth water

Yep. They are delicious. I collect the ones off the West Coast of Scotland. Had the black spiny ones a lot in Greece.

An interesting bonus aphrodisiac side effect too........ I find.

Used to dive with a Maori couple off Monganui. We Got large black urchins ( Kina) and Abalone (Poua). Split the urchins open with a large sheath knife, looked disgusting, like afterbirth, then scraped the orange roe off the inside of the shells. Now that's high powered munga, bloody delicious.

Used to get the orange sea urchins off the trawlers, scrape the spikes off, insert knife into rectum and ream, shake out the insides and wash, then sell. Looks like may have missed out🤔
Average size large orange some grapefruit size.

Most people jig for them here, fight like lions, plenty about, I soft bait and slow jig, so lose more than I land but it’s about the sport. Landed a tone on a soft bait 6-10 kg rod in 4 mths of water last time out great fight.

They're lovely but those spines are dangerous. The thorns get infected if you don't get them out quick.
First time I tried them was fishing on a quayside in L'Estartit, Catalunia. This kid fishing next to me got bored and started foraging, I gave him a Paddington stare for messing up my day and he offered me some.

Had one in Brazil years ago.
Can't say I enjoyed it as I stood on the thing and the spines broke off in my heel.
Aye. Eating them is revenge. Just needed a v cold glass of Chablis
Sadly not here🙄
