Second hand made knife (and 3rd I suppose)...

Just for those of you who are interested in this sort of thing. Will keep it short this time!

80RrV2 steel blades 4mm thick. 'Main' knife is roughly 9" long with a 4.5" cutting edge; 'Skinner' has cutting edge of 2.5cm and was just done for a laugh with some leftovers tbh. Hardest part was following through on deciding to round the back of the blade as it meets the handle to make it more comfortable and safer. Both HT'd to 59-60 HRC. Went for a convex grind on each this time (a right pain) and eventually finished to 2500 grit (will need a little more work post sharpening). Not sharpened/stropped yet as waiting on some new (better) stones. Handle is from 3mm black G10, 1mm brass and maple burl sanded for eternity. Scales treated with boiled linseed and then around 10x fine film coats of Tru oil. 3mm veg tan sheaths nearly done but ran out of stitching thread doh.

Hope you like :)

Beautiful, I think I'm going to give up now and go back to fly tying!
Cheers
Richard

No no no Richard. Dont give up yet! Tbh I've had a pig of a pm in the garage. Managed to pretty much f' up 3 blanks I'd put some considerable time into. Might me rescueable tomorrow but put me in a pig of a mood lol. I'll pm you again v soon mate but it really isn't easy as I said and needs lots of patience. Like shooting not many of us post reports on our blanks/ failed outings. Fly tying is a great skill to have mate, you'll have to teach me! :)

Stunning looking knives pal

Very nice work, were did you get the jig I do with one like that.
Tusker
Thanks Tusker. I knocked the jig up myself. It's based on a not very well known US model. I used steel as I has no aluminium lying around. Figured the extra weight would be an advantage and more tolerate of accidental contact with a fast moving belt. The biggest advantages are it's very quick to make micro adjustments to the grind angle but also swapping the blade sides to grind each bevel bit by bit takes seconds. atb, P

Very nice. I would love to learn how to do that! Do you sell them?
Thank you mate. No I don't sell them. My wife and several friends are trying to persuade me to but not sure I need the 'hassle' at the moment tbh. I enjoy doing it and I'm making a couple for f&f. Trouble is you get a bit OCD doing this...the minutest scratch or off angle starts to get noticed. I'd only sell some if I could guarantee they were 100% to my eyes. But I'm not ruling it out in the future either...just need to get better. Thanks for your interest and comments
