Section 1 shotguns banned soon ??

As with any sec1 firearm it all comes down to the reason given when seeking a grant.
Can you think of a definite situation that a multi shot shotgun would be needed where you can legally use it?
I can think of a reason for any firearm I may want, (on a similar vein I think I could also give a reason for not to have one), but that should be the end of it, it shouldn't be a debate or arguing point with an agenda

I met a friend yesterday for a bit of new baitboat practice pre our annual French fishing trip, anyway we got talking guns he applied and got granted a FAC for a section 1 Air rifle and then went on to get his section 2 auto 3 shot converted to a 5 shot. Since a visit to his local gunshop and a phone call to our local FEO it seems that auto shotguns holding more than 3 shots are going to be banned for any live game shooting and FAC section 1 shotguns will be granted for Practical shotgun. Is this true ??
I have recently renewed my certificates and West Mercia Police have removed my authorisation to control vermin using my S1 shotgun but retained my use for practical shooting. No proper reason given, just that I am no longer permitted to sue it on legal quarry.

I loved my Benelli M2 which was 10+1 which I got for pest control. Never fired more than three at pests so I gave it up. I some ways I wish I’d kept it but that was two renewals ago, so I couldn’t have claimed the original reason in all good conscience. I prefer to try to demonstrate the spirit of the law even if the letter is sometimes an ass…meanwhile my Benelli Rafaello Black does all I need. And probably a bit more.

West Mercia is a certainty a no go applied on last variation I had a zoom phone call with a loverly woman called Ashley who’s is our new feo who said I can put your request and argument forward to the chief but she said I can certainly guarantee you won’t get it so I dropped it I did state my disagreement with the only people allowed s1 shotgun are practical shooter I believe they shouldn’t divide us be it hunting or targets was also told that they are taking the outlook of if it gets into the wrong hands again I disagree because whether you shoot target or pest they all get locked in the same cabinets am also hearing of people at renewals and variation being told they can no longer have a section 1 shotgun
Just last week West Mercia renewed my certificates, including my S1 shotgun, but removed the condition for vermin control. It is still approved for PSG. No proper reason given.

You should have pushed it then
Areas making up non rules to suit themselves is going to affect us all and needs push back at every opportunity.

I was fox shooting the other day, with about 20 guys with sec1 shotguns.
I did try even mentioned about the getting shooting orgs involved and was told the likes of BASC etc are pushing back but so are the cheifs in all honesty I can’t complain with regards to west Mercia they have always been golden and in 15 years to have only one thing pushed back as much as I don’t agree or like it is a little sacrifice Im willing to make

All the little sacrifices will start to add up....

You threatened them then?
You didn't strengthen your good reason, is that correct?

As with others, I'd have left it on and pushed.

When I got my Sec1 shotgun (granted for IPSC), the FEO at the time spent 1.5hr telling me why he wouldn't endorse it also being conditioned for Clay Pigeons and that I would 100% not get that condition.

The conversation ended with a I'll put your arguments in, I'll put my recommendations/concerns in, and we'll see what you get.

Guess what... He was wrong.

I've never understood the British authorities pathological fear of shotguns with high magazine capacity and the use of slugs.
I couldn't give a rats arse if someone uses slug on deer or rabbits. In fact most my humble number of deer taken this year I could of done with a shotgun of little capacity!
The same British authorities don't however seem to have an issue with the same applicant owning a high capacity rifle.

Being only half English can be really difficult at times as it makes everything so much harder to understand!

Threaten is a strong word I had a good conversation with them about it I was told flat out no go under west Mercia so I let it be my reasons were strong and justified for pest like pigeon crows etc squirrel vermin drives etc also around here we have a lot of poachers with running dogs and some of the ground if you stop a vehicle or even get into the fields rabbits are skittish and off I understand that giving in is a sign of weakness but it was my decision to drop it off the variation at the end of the day I work rather work with them than be a thorn in there side like I said before I can’t knock west Mercia in anyway shape or form

I hate to sound like I’m having a dig , but that’s completely the wrong attitude. They are not your mates and you should be knocking them , for not doing their job and eroding your rights .

Unfortunately if everyone was like this we would all lose our guns to keep the police happy

But a bolt action, I'm sure you remember the good old days when we had semi auto, I had an interesting conversation with my feo at last renewal about the pistol ban, saying he supported it as they were easy to conceal under clothing, oh you mean criminals I said, awkward silence

Aye I never understand it either.
While u can empty ur mag quick, by the time u start to faff about reloading ud get more shots off with a S/S.
An experienced shot can put some lead in the air fairly rapid with a break barrel

I know dozens of guys with sec1 shotguns for vermin. In Scotland

Aye in the past ( been a few years since I've been at the grouse now) a lot of the grouse boys all had 8s or 10s

Was like the alamo on keepers day on the pheasants if a few of them were standing together.
