Selling all shooting equipment

What’s the best way to get rid of a variety of guns, ammo, and general shooting equipment in one sale?
Does anyone have experience of auctions for that sort of thing?
I really don’t think I have time to split things up and post and package separately, even if it means inevitably losing money.

You’ll most likely take a big hit if you auction, what with people going there looking for cheap buys, and then the auction fees.

Why not post on here, and see what the response is ? It so depends on what you have

As someone new myself I would say perhaps post an advert for a newbie to buy the lot - I don’t have my FAC yet so can’t make an offer myself otherwise this would be perfect! Best of luck in your sale

The difficulty is in having several different calibres that someone would have to have slots for .243 .30-06 .375 and shotguns .
I just want it gone in one hit preferably. Looking for the most painless way out now

What you selling
if its a cheap enough package then as above may be the best road to go down .
otherwise bits it out if that makes it over budget for a new starter the SD sharks are now swimming around lol.

Auctions are a way out for everything in one go, but it won’t be painless! (-£)

Gun shop for the licensed items (if they want them) and ads on here for the rest. You can always offer packages of kit (all loading gear for one calibre at x price?)

How does firearms auction work exactly?
Would I need to physically be there on the day to do the paperwork side of it?

Take the shotguns to a decent dealer to sell on commission.
List everything else here, it surely won't take ten minutes. You could wait ages to find one person, even an RFD, that's interested in everything.

Really there's only a couple of ways forward. Either you auction them (they'll likely be split into different lots anyway) or you go to a gun shop and ask them to make you an offer. I suspect that both of them will see you not reaching their true worth. Of course you won't get retail prices for them, but I fear it'll be significantly less than that. Maybe a local rural sale room might be the way to go, many of them hold "country sports" sales a couple of times a year.

You don't say why you need them gone soon, which I guess is personal, but is it not possible that a family member or trusted friend could organise this for you? The only necessary input from yourself would be where it's legally needed.

You could, of course list them on here and if you can't be bothered sending them specify collection only.

Don't leave anything in limbo at an RFD, where you may get charged a ridiculous storage fee, which mounts up quickly. Make sure the agreement is commission sale with zero storage fees.

Used an auctioneer in Salisbury a few years back, pretty painless but not a good return after commission... I went to the auction just for the experience & bought a mixed lot with a leather cartridge belt, leather cartridge bag & pair of working peltor sporttac ear defenders for £32 including commission 😳 - bargain for me but seller must have been in tears!

No need to be there on the day, paperwork all done when you drop guns off.

You will generally be offered 50% of the market value by the average gunshop.

They need to make a living-it might be months before they get a sale.

As above, put into an RFD on sale or return commission and no storage fees.

If you post pics and details of what you want to sell on here with an aspirational price, you might get lucky-but almost certainly better than a job lot.

I’m really not too worried about the losing money aspect of this, it’s really just about getting shot of everything with the least amount of time spent on it. All my remaining gear is in used condition and nothing particularly expensive to begin with

I already advertised guns on here previously but no buyer.
Sako AV in 30.06
Sako L61r .375hh mag
CZ 550 in .243win

The other stuff I have sold on here was really quite time consuming and not really great price anyway.
Gunsmiths aren’t interested in holding rifles for free.

I have considered having a ceremonial bonfire in the garden just to have done with it all 🤣

If you really don’t care about the returns then auction is easy to do, still time consuming, you will need to sign them over to the auction house, and still do the police notification.
They will ask/discuss reserves/values and suggest how to lot things up.
Most auction houses now also do online bidding, and would reach a far wider audience than on here, you may get a good price IF you have a couple of buyers want it, but most likely it’s often dealers buying and they want cheap as have to pay fees, handling, and still make a profit.
Then you have your sales fees to pay, it could be quite painful but fairly easy.
The thing it saves is working out a price, adverts, dealing with endless offers and questions, multiple postage or arranging collections.
I can see why you want to go the way your thinking, personally I would put all licensed items into an Rfd on commission sale, then list everything else and a price you would like, take a% off the total, offer as a job lot on forums without the option to split,
I’ve bought a few job lots like that and just moved on the bits I wasn’t interested in.

CZ550 .243 would be of interest of my colleage, he has the slot on his ticket and would be a no nonsense sale if he hasn't already purchased something. Price please for the gun and anything it comes with. Understand if you still wish to go down the all in route.
