Sharks and crocs here.

Apart from the governments view jg, what’s the view of the population on the croc front, read about them been close to extinction through hunting moons ago, surely common sense says cull? Can understand the shark situation, stay out of the sea it’s their domain, or take your own risks or does that apply to both species? Have you shot any crocs in previous life?

Hello John.
I hope your government has a more realistic attitude towards the control of these spices than ours.
The scottish government are totally against the control of seals in our coastal waters and numbers are increasing exponentially.
The result is so many jobs in the salmon fishing industry are in jeopardy due to rapidly decreasing numbers.

Same on north east coast, seals have learnt to follow boats with anglers, and most wrecks have seals working them in summer as fish holding areas.

It has been nearly 13 years since I was in The Territories, but you did not have to look hard for Crocks, that’s for sure! The Adelaide River, East Alligator River and The Whitewater were full of the snappy buggers, certainly would not go anywhere near the banks. But as has been said, it is their domain.

But Africa has that many you cannot count the rascals in some places, and the Nile Crocodile is not one to **** off either. Strangely, despite seeing loads of warning signs, people are still seen fishing and washing their cloths in Crocodile territory, and they disappear on an alarming scale. Their choice I guess.

Sharks, I cannot see what you can do tbh. They can travel so far with the kick of a tail, and again, it is their domain. Seen plenty off the Western Cape, SA.

We also have an explosion of Seals here in the Westcountry of England, and they are becoming a pest. I spent the vast majority of my working life in their domain, and can, very easily, say that Seal numbers have, at least, quadrupled in the past 25 years.

Gill netting for cod not viable close to large seal numbers, nets get trashed, fish eaten, but must be plenty food as seal numbers growing. Think min cal was 270 at one point that could be used to protect livelihood at sea at one point, don’t know about today and stand to be corrected.

Have you shot any crocs in previous life?
No never mate, lived in their area, saw them but never shot any.
Png croc skulls illustrates how these lizards can be big. This Saw Shark bill I bought 20+ years ago,the Barra fisherman wouldn't sell me the croc teeth.

say that Seal numbers have, at least, quadrupled in the past 25 years.
Seals dont eat people like the OP species though but they draw the Whites in of course...same whites swim `tween SA and Aus...bastards!

Nice bill, was it a religious reason for not selling teeth jg ? Did croc shooters prefer small calibers in the past or just whatever they had handy? Must be plenty of food for the lizards then / now for them to grow big

The Wilmotts who shot crocs commercially for luggage and handbags in the dim distant mostly used a 30-06 but that is what they had.

David.
