I do shoot all manner of vermin in my back garden rabbits, magpies, carrion crows, grey squirrels, foxes - not jays or jackdaws or rooks anymore but its a large back garden and I believe I am entitled to - the land is mine, as are the shooting rights, I abide by the GL and as much as I have a responsibility to remove any ragwort the same applies to rabbits. Protecting my red listed birds does for the others, apart from foxes and I am sure they are vermin (although not formally tested in court by anyone AFAIAA) and besides, they like my chickens too much - .223 is the largest cal I need to use.
