Don’t forget Philips screwdrivers a favourite tool of the Yorkshire ripperI think blowpipes were officially banned a couple or three decades back - caught up in the same "Battle Orders" hysteria that caused the then senior minister, on discovering their advert in a copy of Combat & Survival Mag. that had been discarded on the train he was commuting on, to bring about the banning of all sorts of items purely because they looked lethal and may frighten the horses...
Hope my hammers are safe from licensing = they're very very lethal in the wrong hands and I'd hate to see them on the streets being misused by inner city drug-gang yoots
That’s exactly where we are heading - the anti’s are being clever, basically make it such a pain to get into the sport that nobody bothers anymore….voila! The death of all things shooting. All these people on here wanting to licence crossbows and bows should be careful they don't get what they want because next will be all airguns followed by under 18s banned from using them so no chance of introducing youngsters to our sport. Then catapults on licence followed by anything else they can think of. And it will not make a blind bit of difference as there are 10s of thousands out there already that would never get put on licence.
How would you feel if the next proposal was a ban on magazine rifles after all ,all the crack shots on here only need one shot.Had a crossbow for years, but can’t remember when it’s been out of the loft.
It’s lethal, far more dangerous than a 22lr, in my opinion.
I’m not aware of any archery clubs allowing them ? And if I was asked, I’d struggle to give a good reason to own one !
They serve no useful purpose, and just allow people who can’t get an FAC, a means of owning a lethal weapon.
I’d have no issue in both bows, and cross bows requiring a license, if the are over a certain energy.
Just WHO checks this ???![]()
what if he was carrying a woodturning chisel, or a scalpel or a sickle. not used by many people for fun all could be put on license. ive never turned wood and as i can buy everything off line from abroad wood turning should definatly be banned. scalpels have no place out side of a hospital or vets, they should be chained in place like pens in banks. sickle my god you could have your own eye out, banned now.
i feel safer already
Really nice to see someone with some sense. I totally agree. That’s exactly where we are heading - the anti’s are being clever, basically make it such a pain to get into the sport that nobody bothers anymore….voila! The death of all things shooting.
This is a big reason why the pro-gun US folks defend every attempt so ferociously, as they know it just leads to losing more ground eventually. And I see their point!

Err. Already the case for all air guns in this particular corner of the kingdom my friend and possession of air pistols is restricted to registered club members for use in same! Personally I cannot remember the last time an air pistol was used in an assault case - even as a hammer! All these people on here wanting to licence crossbows and bows should be careful they don't get what they want because next will be all airguns followed by under 18s banned from using them so no chance of introducing youngsters to our sport. Safe to say the last thing to be banned will be shotguns, as they all enjoy a good day on the birds. Why any of us would openly accept/invite legislation limiting firearms (loose interpretation) on the basis of a single incident (of apparent mental health) is puzzling to me. It’s like turkeys voting for Xmas. It wasn’t long ago the powers that be were looking to ban 50 cal rifles….what the hell for I have no idea, absolutely zero precedent for it…seemingly out of the blue which is terrifying. I see blowpipes have just been banned for some mysterious reason. I have never heard of an incident involving one, it seems people are sat around dreaming things to ban, let’s not make it easier.
If it isn’t becoming quite obvious that Boris and pals (and Christ knows about labour) simply do not have our interests at heart then I don’t known what would make it so, we need to fight every battle like it is our last IMO.
