Should shotgun and firearm certificates be on the accepted list of photo IDs for elections?

The Bobby is possibly confused.
If your paper license has the correct address, it's fine.
If it's an old address, not your current one it's invalid.
That's why I asked about moving house.
Google dvla, it will confirm the above.

Hi MAH.
Yes she had the correct address, Bobby was 'confused'. I was disappointing that a bobby was not aware that a paper license was still valid.

Thanks. You are not the only one. Just underlines the need for an expanded list of photo IDs - or just let it be any photo ID - the argument for introducing photo IDs in Britain was to reduce a tiny risk of voter fraud. Some have said that people having their poll card and some form of photo ID whatever that is, is arguably robust enough to mitigate the risks.
Is this now an official BASC campaign?

As per the article in OP I have twice been in touch with Electoral Commission about this on behalf of BASC and I will be following up with the The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

Here is a link to a Q&A in House of Commons about shotgun certs as voter ID.

Here is the subsequent Electoral Commission report which recommends that the UK government review and expand the list of accepted ID, and identify any additional documents that could be added.

IMHO the answer is no. As certificate holders we are not meant to advertise our ownership of firearms to casual acquaintances let alone those people also having all you address details from the electoral register. I got one of the ridiculous voter id documents from the local council for nothing. Use that and stay under the radar

It seems unwise to publically link an address to firearms in any context.

And staffers at any given station may well hold strong views on firearms which might be to the detriment of the law-abiding voter...

...particularly since this govt has asked the police to place more resources available to record NCHIs. [unproven allegations nonetheless recorded against the accused's name]

I agree that FACs probably should be permissible as a form of ID. On the other hand, aren’t there more important issues right now for BASC to be campaigning for?
BASC has various teams engaged in myriad policy work at any one time in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Also work in the EU with FACE and wider afield internationally. As regards getting SGC/FAC onto the list of accepted Voter ID this is one of many policy issues we are working on concurrently. As regards campaigns I think the most important issue right now is people inviting their MPs to visit their shoot, club or business so they can see first-hand the positive impact of shooting and conservation. Is this a campaign you could help with engaging with your own MP?
