Hi all. I have a cocker spaniel bitch that i want to breed from, the only problem is, is she wont stand for stud dog she yelps and runs away as soon as he tries to mount her. The vet has taken blood sample and he says she is at the optimum stage in her cycle for breeding. Does anyone know why she wont stand. Thanks

Hi give her time with the male, exercise on the lead together about 30 mins. Hopefully after that with a little enjoyment like retrieving for both of them to keep em focused and minds of the obvious, then after a little time of relaxation of the handlers and dogs things might happen fingers x good luck

My Dam has been brought up with the sire and sees him as a playmate, so would not stand for him, bouncing away when he tried to mount. Last season I interpreted this as having missed her moment and was unreceptive. She was a maiden bitch. This time round blood tests guided me so I simply restrained her from running away. She had the lead on, and I stood her in front of me. knowing she could go nowhere she tolerated the sire, and was calm and steady throughout the tie. The follow up service went much the same way, but she was steady throughout and good as gold. The pups are due any day now.

What age is she? My bitch wouldn’t stand at two years old but stood the next season. Had pups and all gone now, but it’s matured her mentaly. She may just still be too young, not phisically but mentally.
