Never seen a silver lab. However, they'll be an absolute disaster area if they follow the chocolate curve. When chocolates popped up, they were a genetic oddity of coat colour and were pretty well normal labs. Now chocolates seem to be bred for chocolates, I'd advise any prospective owner to avoid them. Skin problems mostly, but they seem to be more unruly, although this is probably becuase folk buoying for colour have no idea on how to train dogs. I can see silver being the same.All.
Does anyone on here own a silver Labrador??
Iām not looking for peoples opinions of whether a Weimaraner is crossed in, or the colour gene carried. Simply peoples options and real life experiences of the dogs. I have read considerably around the skin conditions and looking for other owners experiences.
Cheers
In my experience and opinion they are a Labrador/Weimaraner cross.All.

I have a similar fat grey haired animal. But Iām not brave enough to tell her.
Bet you still love her tho when sheās making your pack lunch for a stalk at 5 in the morning26 posts and Doesnāt look like anybody has one.
neither do I. In fact Iām not allowed one. I have a similar fat grey haired animal. But Iām not brave enough to tell her.
Funny enough, she has even got out of bed occasionally to make sure i have breakfast when I have someone coming to go out shooting. So canāt argue too much.Bet you still love her tho when sheās making your pack lunch for a stalk at 5 in the morning![]()
Black labs are essential items for keepers, I followed that rule for years, served me well!!!!The simple reason you do not want a Silver labrador is to do with shooting on driven days.
When your black lab runs in or busts a load of pheasants you can safely scream ā whose is that bloody Labrador ā and no one will know if it is yours or any of the other 20 present on that shoot day. If , on the other hand you have a Silver labā¦ā¦

Reminds me of the remark made by an old well respected dog trainer.Black labs are essential items for keepers, I followed that rule for years, served me well!!!!
You say the Weimarana in her, do you know if her line had that in it or was it a genetic glitch (which does occur occasionally) as opposed to intentional introduction of another breed? So a year down the line with the silver lab and couldnāt be happier she took a couple of trips ducking end of season and I was super impressed with her retrieving in water over considerable distances. She is quiet enough to peg dog all day and will work well, sheās no cocker work ethic but neither has any lab iv ever owned, but thatās horses and courses. She is now 3 weeks into training on the deer and has just completed her first 200m track at 2 hrs old, not by design someone called in the yard just after Iād laid it, she didt seem at all perturbed that the chickens had dug away at the trail as the liver had been over it and nailed it without any back passes. Overall iv found her easier to train that my fox reds and on par with my blacks, athletic wise she is a lot more nimble than my others and can out swim them hands down. As iv only ever had one silver itās no real science but so far she out does my āpure breedā labs in just about all ways. Designer dog or not the Weimaraner in her is obvious and to be honest I think it brings out all the positives and I still canāt see any negatives. I know there not for everyone but Iād take another in a heartbeat, will be interesting to see how they develop and if I just have an easy one.
