Sitting for DSC1 shooting test

I've got my DCS1 booked for end of March.
I'm a fairly big lad with an old knee injury.
Shooting prone...fine
Shooting kneeling... not going to happen. I can't sit on my foot, never have been able to. Plus not got full range of bend on right knee.
I've been practicing shooting sitting...hmmm, not good.
I've got a trigger stick, it'll support at the right hight but not stable enough to be accurate. I've practiced sitting cross legged but not good either.

I've considered getting a 12-24" bipod?

Any input gratefully received!

A 12-24 will help - but you state you're quite big - so suspect it will not be high enough to sit comfortably. Consider a tripod. The height in is infinitely adjustable and the wide stance is nice and stable - with a clamp, you can just focus on you rather than the rifle.
Find a position you can sit comfortably and relaxed and then make the support do the work to bring the rifle to you. This makes for a better more stable shooting position. I'd also recommend (if you can do it) one knee up as a support for your elbow on your trigger/butt side as this will add additional stability. Keep practicing - you'll be fine.

Discuss your issues with the course provider beforehand and I'm sure that they will sort out an approach for you.
Good luck.

Why do you need to shoot sitting for the test?

I was under the impression that it is the option of sitting or prone at 100m, then down to 70m where you may sit, kneel or stand, where when I did my DSC1 a couple of years ago, we all stood and used tripods or quad sticks based on preference, then the HD shot at <20m is done standing off sticks/tripod.

Do you need to kneel for the DSC1? It's been a while since I did it but I thought it was prone at 100m standing off sticks at 70 and 25 for the coup de grâce.

I may be miss remembering though.

But as JCS mentioned, speak to your test centre to clarify what their actual practice is.

Although for reference, this is the official script from DMQ who award the DSC1.

A wheel chair bound person will have the same FAC as you do, the cert is not worded "disabled shooter"
So hopefully both people would be treated the same?
The have been a few stalkers over the years on here with one leg, the people who write the requirement's should look a bit deeper into what is required and in my book it should be "however you can make a clean kill in your personal circumstances"
You see a whole team of people helping a person up a mountain in a wheelchair but the flip of a coin you could well fail as they want you to sit down (and possibly fail)

You don’t shoot kneeling…100 yards prone…70 yards off sticks. I suppose you could shoot kneeling if you wanted to but everyone shot standing off sticks. 20 metre head shot, again off sticks standing.

I've just re read the manual, where it talks about the shooting test:
"Adopting a standing, sitting, or kneeling position, 2 more shots will be taken at 70M, before, with an empty rifle, moving forward.
I presume then, that it's an option.

Contact your course provider and explain your restricted disciplines, if you can do prone do for the 3 in 4 then sticks I would just get clarification and soldier on or do the whole lot standing or even ask for a chair
Just keep practising on your agreed shooting positions prior to the event and your breeze it
Good luck 👍

No 3 shots in 4 inch circle anymore for the assessment. We still provide a zero target for familiarisation if candidates are using a club/estate rifle of if they want to do a quick check of their own rifle but it isn’t part of the assessment.

Like everyone else has said, you’ll not need to kneel or sit. I did mine last October. 3 shots to zero prone 100yds, 2 shots prone 100yds to the chest, 2 shots off sticks 70yds to the chest, 2 shots off sticks to the head 20yds.
So long as you familiarise yourself with the silhouette target and correct shot placement, you’ll be grand.

Thats what we did last year, I have a metal knee and kneeling wouldn't be an option without enough moaning, groaning and yelping to clear a wood....never mind getting up again!

The whole test is a farce. I have a difficulty sitting on flat ground. I can sit as long as I get as my legs down a bank or similar. The people who know me will know that I can shoot well. I said to my guy testing me, I can't shoot sitting here because I need to get my legs down a bank. I can shoot standing at 70m. Now, because we are tested annually and I "failed" to complete the test it plans were put in place to remove the rifle from me. I did point out that because of the lack of facilities no one actually complete the "shooting test" that day. We all had to do part of the test again. A rather expensive tick box exercise. Hitting a 4 inch circle at 100m and less is hardly a test. I think Stevie Wonder could achieve that
