I won’t ditch the moderator (I’m deaf enough already) but I do take the bipod off more often than I used to. Especially with my current quad sticks as I can get sat behind them if needed. The bipod is often used on my 20 Tac, which happens to have the longest barrel of all my rifles. So I tried muzzle down, I’m 5’11” and still not tall enough to carry this way. Not that suits me anyway. The main reason I don't often use a bipod myself it spoils the balance of my rifle as does a mod in my opinion and if I can I'll also ditch it too, I either use sticks for roe/sika or shooting off a small light foam filled rucksack on the hill for reds. I do however recommend the ruck slings by Niggeloh easier to spread the weight of the rifle if you're stalking over any distance and stops the rifle slipping off the shoulder. Not a fan of carrying full length barrel with mod muzzle down as I'm only 5'10" not 6'4".
I don't give a fig if this makes anybody upset or a keyboard warrior either as everybody has their own views on what's important to them. I don't take shots over 200yrds at deer and most are sub 100yrds as I'm a stalker not a sniper only using a bipod for target shooting myself![]()
I use one of these better than the z aim green-roetex-hunter-pro-rifle-sling-right-shoulder
Did you get a Charlie though?Went out last night with my homemade Mk 1 SGS and worked a treat. Carrying rifle on right shoulder, Deathgrip in the left and small rocket pouch on my back with the caller and odds and sods in it.
Covered a couple of miles walking no problem and got one in the bag.
Saved £40 on a Roetex and £32 on a Harpsoe. If I wasn't able to make my own one I would have certainly gone out and bought either a Roetex or Harpsoe as it definitely makes a difference deploying the tripod quickly with only a normal sling on.
I'm no David Bailey (ask your mum and dad, kids) but the vixen is at the bottom of the photoDid you get a Charlie though?
I didn't even look at the photoI'm no David Bailey (ask your mum and dad, kids) but the vixen is at the bottom of the photo![]()
Having bought a Vorn I'm now looking to add weight to my hill rifle for accuracy, the exact opposite of what I have spent the last 35 years doing!!I have a z aim and a north stalker(i think). They are the same design but the north stalker is a bit better quality.
I certainly would not have a heavy barrelled rifle again. A rifle has to shoot well but it also has to be comfortable to carry. I would prefer a short, lightweight rig with a stock with flush cups swivel both on the bottom and side
