Small white lumps throughout liver

Shot a roe kid this morning, all ok apart from the liver that had lots of white lumps on the surface and throughout.

Any ideas ?

What were the lymph nodes like? I assume normal from "rest of carcass OK"
This looks like infection you sometimes see in lambs due to bacteria getting to the liver from the umbilicus.

Thread 'Roe Deer liver with white spots on the surface: fluke?'

This liver was taken from a young roe and having bagged the liver and got it home in cold water I find that the surface has maybe 2 dozen little white spots varying up to 2mm in diameter.
Having sliced through one the spots are about 4mm deep and have a hard white centre which pops out.

The rest of the carcass is in the chiller.

What am I looking at please?

Any ideas on these white spots?

Apparently all nodes where fine, deer showing natural behaviour pre shot but was suffering with severe diarrhea
Everything else reportedly normal...

Yes, lymph nodes all ok and other organs the same, behaviour was normal.

See it rabbits, when we had some. Always understood them to be tapeworm cysts.

I always thought they were soft? These were quite hard.

Cysts are fluid-filled, whereas those in the OP's photo appear to be firm nodules.
I think they’re the result of a previous infection/parasite burden, now no longer active.

Looks like liver white spot in red deer but not sure if that applies to roe too. If it does apply to roe then it would be fine for consumption as it's due to migrating parasites (but not the liver obviously).

Probably fluke but I don't think it's tapeworm as they usually have fluid filled cysts. If lymph nodes are ok then probably not infection. Tumours in deer are rare and it doesn't look right.
