Got my letter from licensing dept just before Xmas, highlighting the need for me to get my medical form in quickly as GPs take ages, they can't process application till they have the medical form, only get an extension if forms in 8 weeks before expiry, blah blah blah.

Dropped medical form & covering letter into GP 0900 on 22 December, got a call at 1630 same day from them asking for confirmation of email address as they couldn't read my hand writing on the form. Email received from GP surgery shortly after with invoice to be paid before they complete the form - £45+VAT.

Along came Xmas & I planned to pay the invoice by BACS on 27 December... I forgot 🙄

Paid invoice on 28 December & sent email confirming.

Received email this morning to say form complete & ready for collection - that's next working day turnaround so can't really expect more than that.

Land form completed this afternoon.

Now comes the fun bit... an online renewal which I'm not looking forward to, last time I did one it took me all day as the website kept freezing.

Oh, and just realised I can't use one of my previous referees as he's now a copper!

You haven't got to do that online rubbish you can do paper version and post much easier

Top Tips for Completing On-Line Application:

1. Do NOT hit the back key.
2. It is possible to submit supporting information (letters/forms), that cannot be uploaded as you progress through the application, upon completion. I think it was at the point of being presented with an email address or making payment.

I only mention item 2 as when renewing mine it would not allow uploading a supporting letter of authority to use all firearms on a nominated estate. The question simply asked for contact details.

BACS? My GP surgery insists on cash, would love to know how HMRC would view that.
Cash isn’t illegal, as most surgeries aren’t set up for taking payment for everyday use cash in a tin is normal! I wasn’t asked to pay for mine!
