Southams Sale

I bought some stuff back in 2010 and they lost it before I could collect, I never did get my money back a real arrogant d{ck.

I bought a wonderful scoped .22 rf martini in excellent condition from ANOTHER auction house. Took it to the local range first round slipped in a treat. Touched the trigger poof cloud of smoke it turned out it was in fact a .22 rf magnum. Contacted the reliable auction house pointing out it was advertised as .22 long rifle rimfire……….oh no problem send it back to us we are so sorry……..could not apologise enough. Sent back via RFD. Certificate returned to police to be amended as having been removed. Waited for a refund……….waited………..Waited……..WAITED!!!! Contacted them oh we are so very sorry refund of only the money paid at auction no refund of RFD money no apology of having to have my certificate amended, no acknowledgment of the fact I was out of pocket or inconvenienced in any way.

sometimes Auction houses do not look after their LOYAL customers, I know it was only a cheap .22 rimfire but I had done A LOT of business through this particular Auction House and felt that the treatment was a best downright shoddy! At worst the feeling of being left out of pocket felt as though they had stolen my wallet!

I have been tempted to buy from them again but “ONCE BITTEN TWICE SHY”. caveat emptor.

I have dealt with Southams for nearly thirty plus years from when it was a Thrapston at the Corn Exchange and an evening sale ending sometimes at 10pm and then at Northampton Cattle Market and then, now, at Bedford. I have never had an issue with them. Ever. They've always been 100% straight with me.

I have to agree with @enfieldspares , never any problems….even delayed posting items as I was away from home! Excellent service! They may attract lower priced items but some of them are absolute bargains…… if only I lived closer I have a few empty Kynoch cartridge card boxes and would love a few more!!!

Must be a thing with .22s. I bought one at auction, bleddy thing had part of the trigger mechanism missing, rang the auctioneer, 'oh sorry, was hoping to get that myself, the action is a collectors item'. Well, sold as seen, no refund, he can collect the action from a scrapyard.

@AGR YES I know how you feel, it’s a trust thing and once it’s broken it does not sit well, to continue as before!
The feeling of being wronged could have easily been prevented by a letter of apology not, oh well sold as seen ……..as was your case. It’s not a good way to conduct business or treat valued customers,

Say more about the boxes. I have loads. 500ne and 275

Having scanned but 4 pages of the auction’s listings I have to observe this is quite the most depressing and sobering spectacle I’ve seen in all the years I’ve being interested in shooting.

So many boxes of assorted bits of kit that for all the world look like what any number of Widows have retrieved from their husband’s den or loft and now simply want shot of.

I lifetime of collecting stuff considered to be of importance, only to see it end up in the bin.

It's not just in Southams auctions, that this is sadly happening, I saw in a "house clearance" lot on ebay, a Wadamet press in among reloading dies, powder measures and sizers. Another listing showed a mix of reloading dies and bullet moulds in obscure calibers being sold for a friend who had passed. Our numbers at the Express Rifle Association have dwindled over the years, there's a generation passing on but too few following on behind. Still as has been said on here before, don't let my wife sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them, just use phrases like "they're all very rare now"

@SpikeD I have been on the lookout for a Wamadet press for some time! The ones for sale Cornwall area are very expensive so still looking! Regards Rookandrabbit

Not unlike the demise of the Birmingham and London gunmakers and fine British hand made guns which in some cases worth very little compared to twenty years ago end of yet another era.😡

I'll say again. I sold my Boss in December 2021 and made a loss of about £1,000 on what I'd paid for it. Yet the price I got for it then would now buy a PAIR of London made guns, at auction, in this Spring 2023, of similar quality, age and condition. I dread to think what would be the loss I'd take on the Boss today if I sold it now. Everyday I thank BASC for their helpful lead shot diktat....
